Profiting from Palestine

Organizers of a Dubai-based tour project aimed at immersing participants in the heart of the Middle East conflict say it is one of the most effective ways to change opinions and show the reality of life under occupation.

"Wonder if while they are touring Palestine if they'll have the authentic experience of having homemade rockets fired at them or masked gunmen shooting at them? ;)"

actually they would have the authentic experience of israeli tanks bulldozing homes for the newly announced settlements or helicopter gunships firing real effective missiles on refugee camps,

or they could even see what it is like to have banned weapons like white phosphorous or cluster bumbs used on civilians

but glad that you logically focused on the useless home made missiles and the "masked gunmen" (do the masks make them scary for you?, if they take them off like the jewish settlers would you calm down?)

clearly its the israelies who are under the threat of deadly weapons, and i am sure that a comparison of the number of civilain casualties reflects this

epicurean,

you said

"Good PR? Is there really anyone left on earth who hasn't heard (in depth) of the plight of the Palestinians?"

so you are saying that you have never seen anyone who is not on the palestinian side? those are people who have heard the other side of the story. those would be the people that good PR is sensibly directed at.

this is unbelievably simple point, and you know this. so either you are just arguementative or you dont support the palestinians anyway even if they are right. either way thanks for discrediting yourself as an unbiased person.

maybe the palestinians should just keep suffering and not tell anyone about it anymore. or maybe the natives in canada should just do the same. seems that is perfectly acceptable for you.

you also said

"Financial aid? Fine. But what good does it do to have more money if you can't buy anything and you can't travel? It escapes me."

so palestinians cant spend money?!?!? hahaha just stop commenting before you make yourself look even dumber. hey everyone i think epicurean has just found the only place on Earth where money cannot be spent!

if you cant understand what money can do for palestinians, i will pay to send you on this trip to palestine so common sense does not "escape you" anymore.

Well said. As for Bashir, we have seen the international community reaction to his farce elections and how the EU,Carter centre,White House...etc recognised the results despite being below the international standards.

It's a wonderful place and a wonderful idea. I've been there many times and lived in Occupied East Jerusalem for a time. Why not go? As a Christian or a Muslim it's a very profound experience.

Can you imagine building a home or school with a bunker so you can run into it everytime you hear the siren? What a life.

It's time the poeple on both sides decide that enough is enough. Painful sacrifices will have to be made. But its upto them to decide what is more important...their religious ideology or the future of their children.

As for hypocrisy...the plight of women and children in Africa hardly get a mention. Women and children getting raped and killed. Other than a few "celebrities" like Richard Gere, no one else gives a damn.

Why is the focus on the "evil" that the "westerners" do? What about wrongs that the leaders of certain other countries eg Bashir propagate? Why the double standard?

This is a business venture , pure and simple..

However, there are still people out there who are in denial of the plight of the Palestinians.. Any little publicity is better than none I suppose..

To all of you who said that this helps the Palestinians, please explain to me how. Good PR? Is there really anyone left on earth who hasn't heard (in depth) of the plight of the Palestinians? Financial aid? Fine. But what good does it do to have more money if you can't buy anything and you can't travel? It escapes me.

3 Billions $ in annual aid in cash without an accounting on how the money is used ? 5 thousands dead American soldiers in Iraq fighting a proxy war, US record on vetoes cast in UN security council to shield Israel from any criticism directed against its violation of Human Rights. hypocrisy ?

am sure that there is a market for this. Although I believe the tourists are more likely to be from the West than the Middle East..

Just can't stand the hypocrisy.

People are dying of starvation and disease just a few miles away, but that doesn't matter does it?

Palestinians make a good political cause to justify all the problems in the region. Besides, seems like a lot of Arabs don't actually like the Pals too much and they want to make sure they don't get stuck with them in their countries long term. ;)

What about the people in Darfur? In Ethiopia? In Kurdistan? In Pakistan? They don't get half the aid the people of Palestine get. Why?
