Primary Schools
Hi all,
My Husband is now in Dubia and back and forth to Qatar for work and unable to find much out about the schools. We are from Oakville, Ontario, Just outside Toront and we have two boys both in Primary school. My older son has been in a french immersion school for the past two years and is doing half day french and half day English. I know that there is no french Immersion school there and someone has susgested to my Husband that getting into the British school system may be easier then the American School system as there is a husge waiting list for the American Schools. We were given there names, Doha college, DESS and Park House school, Does anyone know which school is better and if they have children who have gone to any of these schools. Both good or bad experiences are helpful.
Thanks
You can try, but education will be 100% arab basis
Hi,I have a question regarding a school options....Is there anyway we get the kid into government owned schools?

Hello blnoor
Our family is moving to Doha by early July, so far we couldn't secure a place for my six year old son (primary 2)in DESS, QIS, Parkhouse, Qatar Academy as they are all full for 07/08 year.
Can you tell me a bit more about Newton International School?
What is the majority nationality of students?
What's the school facilities?
Do they organise quite a bit of after school activities (this is quite important to make friends when you are in a new country)?
Is there a school bus service?
Many thanks
We are coming for a visit in March during my children's March Break for about ten days. I was hoping to see the schools then and make a decision for the following September. Do you think that 7 monts is enough time for both of them to get into the same school. My husband thinks that we can always move them around later if we don't like the school we put them in but I feel that that is unaceptiable as the kid are aready changing schools, homes and leaving all their friends behind. I don't want them to recent the move, even if thay are resiliant at that age.
As for my husband doing the leg work he is already way too buys with his new job and it is not really his thing if you know what I mean.
Your best bet is for you husband to go and have a look at what all the schools can offer. Then you will be making a more informed choice. All the schools in Doha have very differerent outlooks on academic and pastoral care - with some very different programmes of study - with varying degrees of success. All have long waiting lists too - so sooner you can decide on a few I would get your childrens names on some of those lists
Ask if you can see some samples of children's work (or on your tour of the school have a good look around) as some schools have noticably different standards of expectations - for the same age level.
There are so many schools in Doha now that cater for a wide range of students, some are linked to embassies and countries, some are run by the government some are totally private - but my view here in Qatar is that just because a school has an obscene amount of money thrown into it - does NOT make it a good school educationally.
I hope this has helped.
If money was no issue go to American School. If money is an issue until kids hit grade 6 send to Qatar Academy then transfer after saving cash to American. Its all about intergration, and the well being of your child socially.
This is a new school openend in Sept 06. The staff is composed of Australian, Brithish, NZ and South African teachers. They teach the British curriculum. Being a small school my daughter gets lot of attention plus the teaching staff is friendly. French is taught as a subject in this school. You can write to them on [email protected] or call them on +974 4110014. I am personally satisfied with how my daughter is doing.
Hope this helps.
I wouldnt suggest any of those schools, they are TOO british I doubt your sun will fit in quickly.
A) There is always The French School if you want him doing the French education system. The whole day is done in French.
B) My personal recommendations would be Qatar Academy, Qatar International School and Cambridge. These schools are probably the most international ones out here.
and IF you decide to stay in Qatar for quite a while, Qatar Academy has some of the worlds best universities on the same campus (Georgetown, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon and Texas A&M). Each one was ranked first in its area of concentration.
