flaunting shamelessly, using all UNFAIR means to dupe us. Fair and lovely doesn’t make us fair anymore, you could as well apply it on blackboard.

Fair and lovely is dumb idea,of the (dumb) people, for the (dumb) people by the ( dumb) people

I endorse black for minimum 4 years……goodbye fair and lovely (RIP)

Hey Alexa!

Not really; I don't live in Qatar any more. Shuttling between Dubai and Bahrain at the moment. Of course, I do pop in and check on good old QL once in a while though;)

As the official spokesperson for Fair and Lovely, I would like to urge you all to refrain from inaccurately referring to Barack Obama as America's first Black President. Our technical experts have evaluated his complexion and concluded that he is America's first Wheatish President. Please cooperate with us to ensure fairness. Thanks.

hehe.... GAVE freedom to?

Well my American half is happy, my Scottish half is wondering when the UK will get rid of their dead weight.

Obama has a hell of a job infront of him. The first 2 to 3 years are going to be very tough.

i think old experience is just going back to do the same old policies of bush., him lacking experience is a good thing, because he is not corrupted by the Bush policies and he will bring new ideas and policies...

By Withnail• 5 Nov 2008 13:36

in his administration, and i trust his judgment in surrounding himself with the right people more than W. i agree he lacks experience but i think he has other attributes that will help negate this.

in my opinion, the Americans are very optimistic on how this young fellow (Obama) could make a difference on their lives.. like foods, they wanted to try something different, the only difference is, they have to swallow it even if it taste aweful at the end... besides, they'll get used to it and hope to try another on the next election...

come on lets give the guy the benefit of the doubt... the problem is already created by that Bush man, and the new Obama will do a better job, im sure and it seems that the Americans like and trust him , obviously, i mean he won their votes didnt he??

I would have been worried regardless of who won this election omarsk. The last 8 years has left the US in quite the pickle and I doubt either of the candidates ability to right things.

gypsy , why all this negativity, the man won the election. lets be happy and positive and wait for the near future to see his actions. if maccain won , would you be worried too ?????

By scmasse• 5 Nov 2008 12:26

His inexperience will be directly related to the people he chooses to be on his Cabinet. If the people he has chosen to surround himself with so far is any indication then I am not at ALL worried about the decisions he will make.

Yes, his inexperience will show right away. He's going to find that it's not that easy to fulfill a lot of those promises, especially regarding Iraq. And yes, it will be a very tough 4 years, thanks in great part to the Dubya administration.

However, I don't believe there's such thing as "irreparable damage".

By Withnail• 5 Nov 2008 12:01
Withnail

what is prop 8?

i think the chances of him being assassinated are slim. not to say there won't be attempts (not so long since reagan got shot) but i think SS will keep him safe. some of them might prefer McCain, but it would still be a disgrace to have POTUS shot on your watch.

as for promises, we'll have to see what kind of a senate he ends up with. he needed 9 more democrats to have 60 in total, which would mean the dems could do what they want (assuming they could agree on what they want).

another problem is he inherits a country with no money.

but, he brings hope and confidence, which can't hurt.

I think his inexperience will start to show almost as soon as he gets into office. I'm sincerely worried that the US is heading towards a tougher 4 years then the 8 they just left.

Well spotted.. So far it's all been speeches and PR..

The real work starts on actual policies and the ability to push through those policies..

He's acquired votes from left leaning republicans, yet he is a leftist democrat. How will he pacify those??

Interesting times ahead..

By Gypsy• 5 Nov 2008 11:50

Actually why would his promises worry me? All he ever yacked on about was "change" without saying how he was going to change anything.

I don't know Brit. I'm afraid there's a segment of US society that I just don't trust. But we shall see.

I'm torn on this election win...Well I'm happy Obama won I'm just:

A) afraid he will get assassinated, which is a VERY likely possibility given that the FBI has uncovered two attempts on his life already.

B) That his inexperience will start to show and he won't be able to follow through on his promises.

and

C) Bush will do irreparable damage in his last 3 months.

Also I'm very said cause Prop 8 passed. :(

I think those are all valid things to put to an end. America is the better for this and HALF of us are not sad that Obama has been elected. The other half of America is probably in for a bit more change than they are prepared to handle.

ringohiqups, I believe it is only Americans that would be sad to see Obama elected. The world is happy, finally we might see an end of the US Empire, and the American interference in other Countries internal affairs. I hope Obsma will ASAP, Close down Gitmo, get the US Soldiers out of Iraq, Afganistan and stop sending missiles into Pakistani Territories.

You can spin it however you like. This is a great day for America. This 35 Year old, White Male, Veteran supported Obama from the very beginning and thinks he is the strongest leader America has elected in quite some time.

This fear of socialist programs you seem to have is interesting. I, for one, think socialism can be a great tool for developing a stronger society. Everyone has there own opinions though.

By anonymous• 5 Nov 2008 08:11

scmasse, analyze his program and you will come to one conclusion, it is a pure socialist program. I could give you plenty of references and comparisons with European Socialist Parties.

And Guess what, the Americans just made Obama president, a Socialist President - how can you then say that Americans will not allow it to be turned into a Socialist Government ??

And besides....America could use a HUGE wake-up call.

By scmasse• 5 Nov 2008 08:04

I have to disagree, Obama's plan is NOT socialist. And besides, American will never allow itself to be turned into a Socialist government.

I can see some programs of a socialist nature being adopted...but not blanket socialism.

By anonymous• 5 Nov 2008 08:01

scmasse, It is a difference between Social Programs and a Socialist Program, but I would not expect an American to see the difference. And there are not many examples of Pure Socialist Governments in Europe. There are and have been lots of Labour Party governments in UK, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Ireland, France etc. but I wouldn't say that these are socialist governments in the true meaning of socialism. Obama's program is definitely Socialism and it will be a cruel awakening for the US

Look at Scandinavia at the moment. Norwy is a fantastic example with a Socialist Party- Labour Party Government for the first time. Not very successful and the People are drowning in taxes. Look at the Former Socialist State of Poland after they got rid of their socialist Governments, the Country is booming.

Don't misunderstand me, I am very happy to see this change in the US. It is the end of the US Empire and the world is happy for that.

That's why it's historic. A people who were held down for centuries, who were used and abused. Degraded and beaten.

They now have a viable candidate that represents the progress that has been made in the US.

Like the USA or not, this is an historic time and talking of assassinations is quite despicable and you should be ashamed.
