Philippines pageant winner loses title

The Philippines’ entry for the Miss Universe beauty pageant has been disqualified after local organisers discovered she was born overseas and out of wedlock, a contest official said yesterday.
Maria Venus Raj, 21, was set to represent her country in August and begin charity work after winning the Miss Philippines-Universe competition early this month.
But the journalism graduate was stripped of her title on Monday after the foundation that runs the local competition discovered SHE HAD BEEN BORN IN QATAR TO AN INDIAN MAN WHO WAS NOT MARRIED TO HER FILIPINA MOTHER.
Her birth certificate stated she was born in the Philippines to married Filipinos.
“We found out about the inconsistencies after the coronation night,” Lilia Ambay, of Miss Philippines-Universe Charity Incorporated, said.
She was stripped of her position not due to citizenship issues but because her birth certificate contained false information, Ambay said.
A runner-up will replace Raj in the Miss Universe contest, Ambay added.
Miss Philippines is a highly prestigious title and winners often go on to lucrative modelling or showbiz careers.

@ Matet,so have you & mathboy hooked up or are you the same person?...just curious *WINK*!!!

@ prettyme, the article specifically states that she was born to an Indian father & Filipina mother out of wedlock IN QATAR & the points i raised are based on what i've come across on the same issue IN QATAR.

My Mum is a social worker here in Qatar & ever so often she counsels distraught Indian wives, sometimes with young kids who don't know what to do & where to turn after their idiotic husbands have left them for their Filipina secretaries or colleagues here IN QATAR,so like i said,my observations are based on real life experiences of families coming apart because of cheating Indian men & their Filipina girlfriends who despite knowing they're married & have children have no care whatsover in destroying their marriages,so like i said prettyme,my reply is based on real life experiences RIGHT HERE IN QATAR,now if you would be so kind as to explain to me how my reply was out of topic "if you please"...

@ Matet, someone posted a thread on multiple id's on QL,did you check it out? *wink*!!!..btw,is that the receipe you use?...that explains a lot!!!

@ somewherndmiddle,i think what you're trying to say is that you would have needed to devote that much analytical thinking to write that mate,i just wrote it off the top of my head based on my observations here, while having my cup of tea before going to work,so thanks for the concern, but really it took no effort @ all!!!

the news is all over newspaper today & I don't think the journalist who wrote this consider the article a petty topic?

As a Filipino, and for a simple reason, I still think the organizers should have verified this before the poor lady was crowned. Imagined!

"false information" after they declared her as a winner.

It is a shame that being born out of wedlock discriminate her and at worst disqualify her to vie for Ms. Universe crown.

I really feel pity for this lady.

we are one country that never stop sending our candidates to any pageant competition. We have no inhibitions to any pre-qualifications of any pageant, so to speak. Most Filipina candidates are bachelor's degree, professionals, smart and I would say, beautiful.

The case of Ms. Venus Raj, is not an isolated case, and while being stripped with a crown,I'd say her case is not that embarrassing compared to the other pageant winner who was involved in drugs case. The decission of the organizers to disqualify her maybe justifiable if she provided false info of her birth certificate but nevertheless, the question of whether she was born Filipina is out of the question.

Most Filipinas who were married or had child with other nationalities produced kids that resemble almost to the father. We Filipinos understand it.

For being not looking beautiful, Qataribull, the pageant doesn't give big deal to it. Although having a pretty face is one of the criteria, being beautiful is different.

I say, only the organizers knew what Ms. Venus Raj declared in her document why she was eventually disqualified.

But, question is, why it took them long to know what was wrong? It could have been detected on the first preliminary rounds of the pageant?

--

Today, March 29, 2010, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. decided, with a heavy heart, to let Binibining Pilipinas-Universe 2010 Maria Venus Raj go, after the organization discovered inconsistencies contained in her birth records, in contrast to her personal account of her birth.

marie_2 who could she be blamming.

I do advice dear expats to consider marriage once you have conceived. First to be out of trouble if you are planning to stay in Qatar. Secondly the new born will have a legal father.

I think its not good for the new born to lose opportunities in beauty peagents.

By anonymous• 1 Apr 2010 08:47

@ marie_2,erm excuse my ignorance but shouldn't marriage be considered BEFORE conceiving or even thinking of it???...

By marie_2• 1 Apr 2010 08:43

Perhaps her mom and biological father?

Dear expatriates, you may consider marriage only if you are ready for the pros and cons that it may bring and not because you are bearing a fetus.

(Sorry QatariBull :))

I can't stop thinking how ironic it is that SO MUCH emphasis is placed on "legal" parentage in the Philipines & yet, such a LARGE number of Filipinos are single parents, have children born out of wedlock. In fact someone even told me it's considered "good luck" to have a child out of wedlock amongst Filipinos, don't how much truth there is to that statement though, anyways,so this young lady is one of what, hundreds, maybe thousands of kids born to Filipino mothers in the middle east out of wedlock,in all likelihood, because that is usually the case, the Filipina mother is working hard in the middle east to support her loser husband & possibly children from him back home, meets expat guy while in the middle east & they're in a "relationship",& how often does that result in a pregnancy? seeing as birth control or an abortion is not an option for Filipinos,in keeping with their "strict adherence" to the Catholic faith...so this young lady is one of those many hundreds or thousands of kids born out of wedlock to Filipina mothers & expat fathers here in the mid-east,what's the big deal?...it's just a LOT of irony & i don't get it...somebody care to explain?...

Qataribull...the opening line of your post says that she has been disqualified after local organisers discovered she was born overseas. So looks like she was not born in Philippines.

The capitalised words in your post also reads ...SHE HAD BEEN BORN IN QATAR TO AN INDIAN MAN WHO WAS NOT MARRIED TO HER FILIPINA MOTHER.

As for the Indian Man...better he run now...:)
