Paddington Bear 50 years, Happy Birthday

By lima foxtrot •
It was 50 years ago that Paddington Bear, in his trademark duffle coat, arrived from darkest Peru and was found at Paddington station in London. 50 years of marmalade sandwiches later, he still remains one of Britain's favourite bears!
Happy Birthday Paddington

Oh well, I suppose I like Postman Pat and his black and white cat? And there are other programmes for the little 'uns which aren't too bad as well, so all is not lost.
But I'm happy to know I was in there when the BEEB first started Children's Hour. And also knowing the programmes weren't so 'naff' because they are now being shown again! beitall as cartoons or whatever.
Classics, dweller, like me and thee ;D
was sung to the tune of the Mexican Hat Dance, wasn't it LOL
as Lima said earlier, it takes me back a few years.
Incidentally, I had the whirligig book on the left, the first one.
Wish I had it now. I bet it would be worth a fortune.
erm ... how come I can no longer add images to my posts?
I was unable to 'edit' my thread topic the other day also.
Maybe I have to add them as a signature? Although it says 'ere:
"Images can be added to this post".
So why can't I ....
"I'm Mexican Pete, zee bad bandit
Zee bad bandit I always 'ave bin
I tie Senor Hank to zee railroad
An' zat is zee end of 'im !"
"I'm Mexican Pete ze bad bandit
I've captured the little Cassy
Senor Hank he must pay ze fat ransom
Before little Cassy I free"
"I'm Mexican Pete ze bad bandit
Zees onions they makea me cry
Please letta me out of zis kitchen

I met Sooty after Corbett's son (Matthew) took over from his dad. Proud moment that was. Unfortunately my own glove puppet had long gone to the moths. :D

The age of innocence it was ... you know I had a lovely fairy tale book and was reading it to the 6 year old daughter of a friend of mine, a decade or so ago ... she was bored. Her father said 'it isn't violent enough'.
YIKES
you remember Whirlygig with HL & Mr Turnip too.
With my own teddy bear!! (well, his twin, anyway) :D

"Contain" yourself...........buy Pampers!
I've lots of stuffed animals at home for my kid maybe some delayed love affair with them as they were not available for me during my childhood.
It goes something like: "Laugh? The tears ran down my legs!"
However, mine was just a giggle and a good giggle it was too, thanks! I haven't wet myself laughing since, oooooh ... um ... Daren't remember! :D
But I digress .... Paddington Bear was 'born' long after I had my first love affair with Teddy Bears, so I never really got to know him very well.
very true Alexa
The Smile is the most important thing in life
Sadly its missing nowadays :):):)
That made me giggle and I've too much to do at home here, today, to be giggling!

Jeremy Clarkson sends his regards too.
His mother owned the factory that made the bear for donkeys years and may still do, am not sure.
a new Paddington Bear book is due out in June, the 1st to be published since "Paddington Takes the Test came out in 1979."
I will be there to buy it!!!!!!!!
I used to love paddington as a kid... I used to get all his vhs tapes from the British council here :P
Mind you, my favourite was always the Teddy in Andy Pandy (grin)
