Official Condolence Thread

By qatexpat

I am glad to invite all members (especially the Indian and Pakistani users of QL) to officially express their condolences at the departure of both Indian and Pakistani cricket teams from the Cricket World Cup 2007.

All of you are requested to take out your pent up frustrations on your respective national teams for their performance at this world cup !!!

You are, however, not allowed to glorify these teams or specific individual players on this thread !!!

We are also inviting expert comments from our readers as to how we can improve these two teams. Comments should come from readers who have actually not played any real cricket in their lives. Those who have played "tennis-ball cricket" and "book cricket" are allowed to post their comments.

The best suggestions will be forwarded to the BCCI and PCB who will immediately take the appropriate action of either sending it to the trash can or even better, shred it in their office shredders to ensure complete confidentiality.

A special note to our Sri Lankan friends : You may join this thread only after the Lankans are out of the world cup. Our best wishes are with you guys to join this club soon !!!!

It's strange, in fact, how India and Pakistan resemble each other so. On the field, there has been a spooky sameness; results and performances in South Africa were nearly identical, the Champions Trophy and World Cup, both failures. Both batting line-ups struggle in alien conditions, as fielders both are poor and both leaders increasingly embattled and embittered. Both now rebuild.

Off it, they are cricket's Paris Hilton and Britney Spears. One, pure monied trash, influential for no other reason than having too much of it, the other straight-up trailer trash, cricket's true basket case. They are tabloid fodder, stumbling from one front page to another: religion, player factionalism, spats, coaching intrigues, politicking, doping and even possible murder. How much of the news that you have read about these two sides recently has been about their cricket?

Bangladesh seniors like Mohammad Rafique play as if in their first international, with much enthusiasm.

I agree. but it is the team effort. someone has to rise to the occation like Dilhara did yesterday.

BTW, I think the Lankans can go all the way, they just need to play out of their skins for two matches...... the semis and the finals...

A lot rides on Sanath, Vassie and Murali, not to mention Sangakkara and Malinga.

I didn't watch the match, I had been on a short vacation and was back yesterday only. Slept early due to my tiredness, but had never any doubt about the outcome of the match....

I included Sri Lanka for one simple reason - I know that there are Sri Lankans in this forum, but I have not seen any Bangladeshi national active on this forum. So, I included the Lankans, thats all. In fact, I am a great fan of the Sri Lankan cricket team, I like the way they play their cricket. In fact I have followed their cricket for many years now, even long before they actually became world-beaters. So please don't accuse me of being unfair, and please remember, this thread is for fun ONLY !!!

Qatexpat, I felt it was a unfair post not to mention any of the other countries left in the competetion, whilst only mentioning Sri Lanka, I understand india and sri lanka are rivals and thats why you probably did it, but so are bangladesh and they are still in it...just.

Also to the indians who are saying the players are bribed, well if they were or not, they still lost to Bangladesh and its fact you need to take. Theres no sugar coating the fact that, and i suppose people will say New Zealand were paid off in the warm up game before the world cup? The fact is Bangladesh is not getting the credit it deserves, and its still a relatively raw team, and will only get better with time.

Well thats my 2 cents...

Heads of all Indians are down with shame, frustration and anger. We had too much hope on the team selected for the World Cup, may be we had high expectations and our team had no such capabilities.

It is now futile to cry over the dismal performance of our team. The only solace was a win against Bermuda, a Chinchpokli XI. We must build a new team of aspiring youngsters. We are a nation of a billion plus. It is not difficult to create one or even two national teams from the vast cricket playing teenagers from the schools, colleges and Ranji players. Take the example of Bangla Desh who defeated India. All young players and proved superior in all aspects, fielding, batting, bowling etc, than our players. My suggestions to build a new Team India are:

1. We do not need a foreign coach for our team. The best coach

is Kapil Dev whom the young players have tremendous respect and

Kapil Dev has the capacity to build a new dedicated team.

2. All senior players, who are proved irresponsible, like Rahul

Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar (apart from a sporadic 50 or 100 he was out in less than 20 runs or even zeroes. Check his records of last 3 years from the record keepers. Besides, his latest zero against Sri Lanka is a hardest slap on the faces of selectors and the persons who advocate his inclusion in the team), Sehwag, Dhoni, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan, Ajit Agarkar, etc, must retire immediately.

3. Saurav Ganguli be appointed as the captain of the team for

TWO YEARS only. During these two years he should teach discipline, leadership qualities, on-site decision making, etc, to the youngsters. He must train a new captain also. After two years he also must retire.

4. BCCI should make a rule that no player advertise any brand.

If any player does, he must be disqualified for life.

5. We, as Indians, must stop buying any product advertised by

our present cricketers.

6. The state and the Central Governments must immediately

withdraw special security given to the present cricketers. They have earned in crores and very well can afford their own private security at their own expense. We must not allow public money to be wasted after these lousy and careless players.

7. For four years, till the next World Cup, stop all live

telecast of cricket matches, big or small. Those who are interested may tune into the news channels and get the scores or can read in the next day's papers. This will deter TV channels to fight among themselves to get rights at a crazy price which give opportunities for more money and more advertisements. The cricketing world also will get a clear message that India is not going to provide mega bucks to cricket.

8. By an act of Parliament the following provisions be made

compulsory:

a) Sitting Sports Minister is to officiate as the president of

BCCI. This will stop politicians and industrialists to vie for the coveted post to have a control over funds running into millions of dollars. (If Mr Sharad Pawar is interested in cricket, he can request the Prime Minister to shift him to the Ministry of Sports. As it is, he is a big failure in the ministry he heads, as prices of essential commodities have reached sky-high. Besides, thousands of farmers in his own home state have committed suicide and he is not bothered to find out their problems and take necessary actions, because his prime interest is in BCCI).

b) The entire finance of BCCI must be subjected to regular

audit by the finance ministry and the audited statements be made public. (At the moment there is no accountability on the part of BCCI and its accounts).

9. The chairman of the selection committee should be a

professional one and non-biased. We can consider the names from K.Shrikant, B. S. Bedi, or even Saurav Ganguli when he retires. Other members of the selection committee must be from all zones of the country. When a team is selected and announced, they should give reasons against each player as to why he was selected.

10. The newly selected team/s must be given rigorous training

and lesions in discipline.

11. People should not consider the players as Gods or icons. Let them perform first. We have many other sportsmen who have made their names in international arena, like, Vishwanathan Anand, Sania Mirza, P. T. Usha, Valsamma, Anju George and many others. In the blind and unnecessary faith in cricket we have forgotten these names that have brought more fame to our country. Let us concentrate and give more importance to other sports.

12. All players of cricket must be judged by their present

performance only and not by the past glory. They must be paid as per their performance.

13. Do not give any importance for four years to cricket, do

not go to watch a match, do not go crazy after players, treat them as normal Indians.

Because of lots of money, five-star treatment, latest techno-

equipments and exposure to the world, our present players have

forgotten the basic game. We must stop this.

Except for the recent setback, nothing is lost. Let us compel the Government and the BCCI to adopt the suggestions listed above and our national pride, with hard work and dedication, will rise like phoenix in another four years.

*This is from today's Mid-Day Newspaper*

After Friday’s defeat against Sri Lanka, Team India not only lost its popularity among the masses but also suffered a blow in the ad world. Corporates, who had based their ad campaigns on cricket and cricketers, are now on back foot.

Sunfeast biscuit’s ad featuring Sachin Tendulkar could soon be off air. The company will instead use the alternative ad featuring Shah Rukh Khan.

Pepsi has now pulled out its commercial ‘Ladega to Jeetega’, which featured Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Mahedrasingh Dhoni.

Instead, the company has started running an ad shot, yet again, with Shah Rukh Khan, said Pepsi’s publicist. Sourav Ganguly, who had made a singular comeback, is the brand ambassador for Puma Sports.

The company, which was planning a huge campaign with Ganguly has now shelved the plan. “We had done a photo shoot with Ganguly with our products before the World Cup.

We were going to follow it up with a huge campaign, but now we have decided to cut costs on the campaign and restrict it to a short one,” said Rajiv Mehta, managing director Puma Sports.

There should be no stars in the team...

Since those established few gain from betting & loosing their wickets every tour should have at least 5 new faces in the playing 11.

By the time they are able to establish networks they should be chucked.

Only players with superior playing form should find their place in the next match.

There should be a formula eg: any batsman falling below 25 for more than 5 ocassion continously means that he is out of form and should be replaced unless he scores a at least a 50 in any tournament.

Ganguly was a product of such a critia & he did well. Sachin should find his form if he has to stay... so also other big names.

So also for the bowlers.

Form should be a Yardstick not Name or Fame.

I think Chapple also made a lot of money for loosing as did our batsmen

One more ‘story’! But it does not start with ‘Once upon a time’ - this is happening today around you and me. Real life ‘violence’ - is the biggest selling point for the media and is a very popular subject of discussion. Peace lovers would react to these incidents as ‘What can I do?’ or ‘How can I change?’. True – we, as individuals can never change the world. But we are the world!! Remember Gulliver’s Travels?? Yes you got it!! United – WE CAN!

The recent death (murder??) of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Wolmar is not just one more sad ‘story’. Most of us are cricket lovers and

enjoy watching matches for hours together. Some are crazy enough to lose sleep over it. But do we even think what are we crazy

about? Is it the athletic talent of people or proving supremacy of our nation? Today all of us are smart enough to know that a

Cricket match – or any sports for that matter – does not signify either. It is a full fledged business where everything is decided

before a match starts and all we get to watch is action replay!! Still, I’d say – with everybody else.. ‘Who cares!!’ There are so many people hurting others for their own good – power and money. Can we stop them? I guess..No!

But today we can! We are true fans of the SPORTS called ‘CRICKET’ – Please don’t let it be a GAME that takes lives!! BOYCOTT WORLD

CUP CRICKET!!

Still wondering how that’s supposed to help??

It’s OUR CRAZE that has made Cricket a wonderful mean to make money. If we quit, there will be no interest for those people to put money in it. Just don’t think about Bob as a rival team’s coach, it could have been anybody!!

PLEASE HELP SAVE CRICKET and SAVE LIVES!!

watchin ystrdys AUS vs SA match, i ws wondrin if v cud outsource some of them... i mean c'mon, v cud pay them a hell lot more than they earn now by jus givin them coupla ads to start with!

n who cares abt patriotism, as long as theres money to b made! if u got any doubt ask the indian players!!...

on a serious note tho, i think its time for the tendus, dravus n ganglys to retire... sure they r good, but i wud suggest v look for players willing to perform against the big teams, not jus showin off against theschool kids!

give the new kids a chance, n time...

n lastly, kick out greg chappell... ystrdy he said tht he is answerable to only the board(who pays him), n not to any one else... has he forgotten tht its the fans who r responsible for the boards income??

n ofcorse, if any of this dont work, lets sponsor some bookies to fix some matches for us.... mayb the nex world cup at home... am sure tht wud b the cheaper option!

Now we are having a new contest !

Here is how it works....

You must have seen those press conferences of Inzi/Rahul where they explain why they lost the match.

What you have to do is to put yourself in the shoes of the player and come up with the best excuse that you can give when a match is lost !!!

11 guys who come up with the best excuses will walk into the team !!!

We shall make the necessary recommendations to the respective boards to select you guys !!!

With the kind of money which is involved in the game today, it is certainly no more about being a game! And yes not to forget about the moolah which is being raked in by team members - millions for doing nothing from BCCI/PCB as well as from advertisers. Its all about a business and PCB/BCCI need ensure that the deal needs be delivered as well on part of players. Probably most fans in our sub-continent forget this part of game and become emotionally attached to whole thing and hence this dismay.. Friends none of these guys now play for nation's pride, its all about money!!

Yes there is no doubt that it makes us sad to see our home countries being taunted and laughed upon.... but alas in the end it makes no difference to people who matter.

no worries ... india's next tour is to bangaladesh and you can see the sixers of Dhoni and all there .... with in one week time Indian spectators fotget abt the world cup .. for the TV advertisement during the world cup, companies spent 600 Crores in India and now they are loosing 400 crores because India not in the second round. Atleast they could have given a 50 crores to the Lankans for y/days match and save the rest of the money ...

THE INDIAN TEAM IS ACTUALLY "PAPER TIGERS".THE SENIOR PLAYERS SHOULD TAKE REST AT HOME AND YOUNGSTERS SHOULD COME FORWARD.THEY DIDNOT ALLOW DINESH KARTHIK AND SREESANTH TO PLAY A SINGLE GAME.THEY WERE IN THE DRESSING ROOM ALWAYS.THE ONE AND ONLY THING THEY CAN SAY IN THIS WORLD CUP IS THEY ARE THE TEAM WHO ACCURED MORE THAN 400 RUNS IN A GAME IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD CUP.BUT THEY SHOULD FORGET THE FACT THAT THEY GOT THE VICTORY AGAINST SOME NURSERY STUDENTS IN CRICKET...BURMUDA.

As per my conspiracy theory and at times there are numerous, Dravid stomach was in recirculation and boiling inside due to previous nights buffet.

It forced him to send himself and his partners back to the pavilion. Based on this story, I would like to produce a film in Bolly wood or Golli wood. Any financiers contact me. 50:50 if loss, all for me if it is profitable.

My suggestion to both (PCB & BCCI) to retire entire team and form fresh new teams.

A good thing to mention is the shocking performance of Bangladesh against India. (Paksitani team having same honour in Past, beated by BD), A new team in this region.

If Nepal, Bhutan, Maldeep having any plan to form their cricket team, Both teams (Pakistan & India) are available to give them Internationl team status.
