Beast.

I don't think I was aggressive and I am certainly not name calling. Believe me, you will know if I post aggressively! The implication of your initial post was that the Asian Games was the road to the Olympics.

Having had a couple of spells with DAGOC and seen the effort that has gone into these games and having seen how Qatar has developed since my initial arrival in 1982. The Olympics are much further away than 10 to 15 years.

Even to host the Asian Games, a country is supposed to have a population of 2 million. I leave it to you to guess how Qatar "got" the games.

There are many countries that will qualify to host the Olympics before Qatar. Taking into account that the Olympics are held only every 4 years, I refer you to a comment made earlier about 1,000 years.

I await with interest the post games review made by all involved including the OCA, other countries, athletes and media personnel.

Dweller,

This is a discussion forum... thats what we are suppose to do, discuss idea's.... Words I used was "I feel" rather then "It will" happen. So I did not say it is likely did I ?? Chill out man, why such aggression and name calling.

E46M3

Pessimist will always find a flaw.. All you said is valid but it is valid for now.... Not after 10 to 15 years.. things are moving and changing for better.

Super7

You have a very valid point I give you that...any idea's on how to increase international appeal of the country...

One of the key selection criteria used by the IOC is International Appeal.

I am afraid Qatar is going to miss out on that one no matter what.

Nothing wrong at all with being a dreamer. But isn't a bit silly to broadcast it as likely to happen?

Beast: OK we'll have them in November and the Winter Olympics a month later. And we'll put up the flood of athletes and visitors in Dubai and Bahrain as we don't have enough hotel rooms. And we'll put together sky trains and import 300 buses and 10,000 taxis as there is no public transport to speak of in the country.

Yeah, right!

Dreams are free so dream on.

point is that if games can be moved for rain or whatever then they can also be moved due hot or humid climate.

Nothing wrong with being a dreamer...or is there

As I said previously, be realistic.

Over 20 years since, Qatar hosted the Asian Cup Soccer Tournament so I wasn't that surprised that they eventually obtained the Asian Games even though accommodation will be a big problem.

The Olympics is a vastly greater event than the Asian Games so they will remain a pipe dream.

The reason the Olympics were held in Korea during the dates you mentioned and not Summer proper is that most of the annual rainfall in Korea falls between June and September, ditto Japan which has to contend with typhoons and tropical cyclones. As for Australia September and October are definitely not Summer months. Those 3 examples you gave are exceptions to the rule; the Summer Olympics are just that, Summer games.

As far as I recall we've had temperatures in the mid to upper 30s in October and it is still quite humid then. Ultimately the success of events such as the Olympic Games and the World Cup are gauged by popular attendance. To date most international events held in Doha such as the ATP, Moto GP, PGA and others have not been well attended by the general public. And the sight of mostly empty or semi-empty stadia is the last thing major sports organizations like the IOC and FIFA want to see.

It'll be interesting to see what the Asian Games are like and how much of the attendance will NOT be the scores of school children who will be drafted into the event or people coming because free draws on cars and such are held to encourage attendance.

20 years ago nobody would have thought that qatar will host Asian games, idea would have been unimaginable but look where we are now... so lets not ridicule the idea.

E46M3

About weather its quite simple, below are the dates for some of the summer Olympics and they were held in October and in October weather here is very pleasant, so i don't think weather is a going to be a problem.

Sydney, Australia

September 15-October 1, 2000

Seoul, Republic of Korea

September 17-October 2, 1988

Tokyo, Japan

October 10-24, 1964

If the Olympics last another 1,000 years they will not be hosted in Qatar.

Come come now, lets not get carried away. Let's be a little more realistic

Do you mean Qatar will host the Olympics next? If so and since the Olympics are a Summer event what will they do about the weather?
