Nice Areas to Live

DrewBoy
By DrewBoy

Hi
I am coming to work in Doha in mid Oct and have the common problem of finding a suitable place to live. I was wondering what are the nice areas in Doha and what are the areas to keep away from. (if any)

Our office is in West Bay and I was after a place on that side of town to cut down the trip to work. I hear that West Bay area is very nice but expensive.

I am a single male from New Zealand and I am looking for a 1 BR appartment or villa. (6-8000 QR)

Thanks

Yup I like it. The only problem with it, in my opinion, is the ridiculous cost of rent.

thanks - sorry for the 20 questions.

So are you enjoying life in Qatar?

No the salary is good, just not when you have to pay rent. I don't know about shared accom. Your best bet is to look in the classifieds here.

Is it easy enough to find shared accom then?

Is a salary of 14,000 per month relatively low?

6000QR is the going rate I believe. You might be able to find a place for 4000QR, but it won't be very nice.

Oh im so confused.. Negotiating isnt one of my strong points.

So any indication of what I would need to pay?

It is impossible to find a one bedroom for that price.

A one bedroom apartment for a resonable price say , 3,500 QR per month.

Would you advise living in a compound or are apartment building fairly safe for single western females?

Ayman is a good guy but he is the only property agent that I have had a good experience with. The fact that he posts on this site is a good sign and many of us have met him. If he wasn't up to scratch it would soon be known. So Ayman Safwany is a good bet. Otherwise try going straight to the owner. I did this and have a good relationship with him. If something goes wrong, he fixes it fast.

I stayed with TGI for a few months in June. It was a fully furnished 2 bed appt for 7500. Nothing worked including A/cs and nobody came to fix them even after repeated calls. You can imagime no AC in June-August. After three months they wanted to increase to 9000. I found a villa (old but not very bad) in Bin Mahmood area near C ring road near Ramada for 7000. Ofcourse it is totally unfurnished and quite old but the price is good. If you can find a good deal nowadays then it is ok otherwise you will have to pay from your nose.

Any news on the rental prices going down in 2007?

Thanks for the info everyone. Sounds like I should start in Jan next year and then there won't be a problem with the housing

Not sure, I will ask for you tomorrow to my watchman. But don't think that you will be paying what I pay. I know the boxes in my building are now being rented for 6000! I just happen to have an older contract

All areas are the same. All as expensive. Only West bay is posh, but you will need 20,000 at least.

I also livein AL Muntazah and its not bad, right in the heart of Doha. I pay 3,500 for a box (1 bed appartment), which is very very lucky!

Good luck Drew Boy

West Bay is a nice area but I don't think you will find anything in your price range. Apartments here are very expensive and scarce. I recently moved in to a 2 bed in Almuntazah (nice area) for 8,500QR per month which believe it or not, is a good deal.

Suggest you either raise your budget or forget West Bay.
