Newspapers in Qatar

As expats, do we compare the quality of the newspapers in Qatar with those back home?

With this post, I am curious to find out-
a) Is the Press Free enough to report ACTUAL happennings?
b) Which is a better newpaper among the few (english/arabic)?
c) Any comparison with other GCC countries or Asian/European/ other expat countries?

It's not news when a dog bites a man...nor is it news when a man bites a dog...We are in times where it is news when no one bites anyone ...some food for thought! :-)

I read Gulf Times everyday.

Depending on your job, the best English newspaper is different.

I tried Gulf Times, Peninsula, Qatar Tribune.

Peninsula provides small package.

Qatar Tribune offers huge package with several sections

(i.e sports, business etc.)

If you are just reading news for your personal interest, Qatar Tribune is the best, i suppose.

The reason why I see Gulf Times is only because of tenders.

My company needs information on tenders everyday.

Impression on newspapers....lack of information on real Qatari community.

As for international news, reports do not need to go out and see the scenes as international news agencies like Reuters, AP provide all the news from all around the world.

So, there's no differnece..

As for domestic, newspapers are focusing on Royal familiy's achivements or official visits to other countries and vice versa..

And.. mainly business news about Q-tel, Qatar airways, Ras Gas etc..

To be honest, domestic is much weaker than international.

One of my friends told me before, 90% of the reporters in Gulf Time from India. And Qataris are not interested in media jobs.

Base on these factors, I suspect non-qatari reports would have difficulties to figure out the fact or truth of the accidents or events.

Or...i suppose no huge pile-up on the streets, no crimes here..

Now, we are living in the Al-Jazeera country. I've heard that Qatar is the best free-press county in the Middle Easet region.

I will just believe that no big accidents or no bad crimes here.. :)

That is why we can't see any eye-catching news on the paper..
