New fingerprinting regulation?

My husband started working in Doha in February. He is currently working on his residency. A friend of his said there is a new regulation that non-European/American workers must have their fingerprints taken to get a security clearance. The process takes 4-5 months. What do you know about this new rule? The problem for us is that I am moving there with our two children in August and without his residency, they can't go to school. Any advice? Staying put in the States is not an option. Is it difficult to enroll children in school after the term starts, if we have to wait until Sept- Oct?

My figerprinting was done 3 week ago but nothing heard after that , it may require more time to get the RP as usual

Take something to wash your hands (Swarfega is good) after the finger/palm printing.

We had an amusing incident in 1982 when fingerprinting was done in a brick shed behind Jaida Motors (near Jaida flyover). The QGPC (now QP) rep took Swarfega for us to use. There was no water on tap in those days so we were told to use a water tank that he pointed out. We did, only to find out later that it was the supply tank for the police office.

finger prints are not that hard, it needs only halff and hour, and your residency is issued after maximum 15 days....if there was no other problems..

4 months is something wrong, took mine about 2 or 3 weeks and RP in less than 6 weeks. He needs to check and see what is happening.

robtperk- That's interesting because what my husband heard was that workers from non-Arab countries were exempt from the fingerprinting. Maybe this is just crazy gossip since his HR dept has said nothing to him about it yet.

That gives me hope things can still work out smoothly. Thanks.

Don't feel lonely. Europeans and Americans also have to have their finger prints taken (as well as a palm print believe it or not). This happens after you have passed the physical tests at the Medical Commission.

Having your finger and palm prints taken, isn't new but a normal part of the process of getting a Residency Permit, without which it may be difficult to have your family join you. How long getting a residency takes varies, and largely depends on how efficient the sponsor is. 4 months would be on the long side.
