New club Membership rules...

Scarlett
By Scarlett

Seems there IS a new rule going into effect Feb. 1st for all clubs in Doha. I was informed of it when I went to The Pearl last Wednesday. They ask you for either your resident's visa or passport before they will let you in, and everything HAS to be in order or its a no go.

So..if you are going out, folks, take your ID with you!!!

wow, Scarlie... weren't you happy when they asked for your ID? they didn't ask for my ID for the last few years.. :(

Saw the most recent article in Gulf times today -

http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=276323&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16

The quote below seems to read that Qatari females ar not allowed in at all, but Qatari males can go in if not in national dress. Am I mis-reading this? -

"The club members have also been advised to follow the general guidelines of the Ministry of Interior, which ban the entry of Qatari females into a nightclub at any time of day, as well as anyone who is wearing the national dress."

Any woman with whom a man has a relationship (of blood or fosterage) that precludes marriage, is considered a Mahram to him.

Mahram women include his mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt, grandaunt, niece, grandniece, his father's wife, his wife's daughter, his mother-in-law, his foster mother (the one who nursed him), foster sisters, and any foster relatives that are similar to the above mentioned blood relatives as the Prophet (SAW) said, "What is forbidden by reason of kindship is forbidden by reason of suckling." (Al-Bukhari)

These are considered Maharim because Allah (SWT) mentioned them in the Holy Qur'an: "And marry not women whom your fathers married, except what has already passed; indeed it was shameful and most hateful, and an evil way. Forbidden to you (for marriage) are: your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your father's sisters, your mother's sisters, your brother's daughters, your sister's daughters, your foster mother who gave you suck, your foster milk suckling sisters, your wives' mothers, your step-daughters under your guardianship, born of your wives to whom you have go in - but there is no sin on you if you have not gone in them (to marry their daughters), - the wives of your sons who (spring) from your own loins, and two sisters in wedlock at the same time, except for what has already passed; verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (An-Nisa 4:22-23)

All the man's female relatives mentioned in these two verses are considered his Maharim, because it is unlawful (haram) for him to marry them, except the wife's sister mentioned last, who is not a Mahram because he can marry her if he divorces her sister, or if she dies. Reciprocally, if a woman is a Mahram to a man, such as her brother, her father, her uncle, etc. then he is a Mahram to her. All other relatives are considered non-Maharim and they fall under the category of strangers to her, except one's wife or husband who is also called Mahram.

What if you don't have a RP like a tourist etc?

What difference will an ID make anyway, don't terrorists have ID's?

It lets you into the country without a visitor's visa but you need to then process your work/residency visa. That takes about a month if it's not Ramadan. It's very hard to leave the country again until you have residency.

Residency is proven by a page in your passport or by a Qatari expat residency card. The two are equivalent and either valid in place of the other.

i'd been to club (QUBE) was eons ago.... can't remember now exactly when was that, but as far as i can remember they always ask for resident ID. so what difference does this policy brings now?

unless of course they are charging membership fees as well ...

good morning to all :)

they have implemented it randomly at the entrance of Orion as we observed. For me and my wife, we were not asked but all the others were asked to show their ID's. I don't know about Da and RP if they were asked to show theirs.

and no, its NOT safe to carry your passport with you everywhere, in case you lose it...that's a pain in the patoot to get another one...
