ParasuramanSridharan...your package is not even 2500!!!

Its 2500-300=2200.

You can bargain upto 3500.

Your room will be a portacabin shared with other people (a la Chali), may be 5 to 10 people.

and "I wont get any incentives for the first 6 months, ie, in probation period." .......means they wont pay you anything except food for 6 months. There are no incentives involved. ...if there is overtime (usually for labourers only) it would QR 3 per hr.

You can consider the QR 2000 as savings as :

1) you will not have any free time in 24hrs to travel & shop as a way of "timepass".

2) You will not be having transportation to travel from your site to your accomodation which would be away from the City.

3) The cost difference will shock you from buying much. (1 Kg Bananna=QR8, 1KG mango = QR 30, 2Litre milk = 9.25, 1Tray eggs=QR22)

ParasuramanSridharan....Have a look at your job:

QR 3500 is the going rate of an Indian Engineer working for a Contractor in Construction Sector.

QR 6000 is the going rate of an Indian Engineer working for a Consultant in Construction Sector.

You will be asked to work a minimum of 12 hrs, usually 16 hrs 6days a week and on the 7th day when you are supposed to take an off you will be asked to work 6hrs (Fridays).

The temperatures you will be expected to work in will be around 45degrees in the shade 6 months of the year. Humidity up to 80% which means even early in the morning when there is no sun you pespire. In the Winter the wind is harsh and working out door is not a pleasent experience at all.

There is no proper transport facilities here. Mostly you will have to travel with the labourers in the Company bus which will mostly be Non-A/C buses. (Wonder if Non-A/c buses should be illegal in such hot weather countries by default).

I assure you will be lucky if your company pays you on time. Mostly they hold 3months salary as Ransom. Most Construction companies (check labour strike of the Bruj Towers in dubai) delay payments sometimes upto 5 to 6 months. There have been cases of people who have not been paid for the entire year. Worked full time & flown home at their own expense.

If you are thinking of bringing your family here forget about it on the spot. 1 Room 1Kitchen 1toilet rent is around 2500. Groceries come about Qr 2000 per month.

Honestly with that income you will not be able to Buy your groceries, rent a flat & travel by Taxi.......welcome to the GULF the land of riches.

The labourers usually have a mess. (Cooked food - 3 times a day at a price around QR 200 per month)

You want to guess howmuch a labourer makes -> QR 500.

Minus QR 200 for mess so he ends up with less than QR300.

Plus you sponsor decides if you want to learn to drive !!!!!!!!

If he things your mug is not good enough to grace a vehicle then you will not be able to even drive here.

The above statements are entirely true, in the whole of the Gulf - Include also Dubai.

You are luckey you found this website.

What are you thinking? 2500 + 300 for an Engineer? I would say.. REJECT the offer... I am sure you may have spent 10 times more on your education to be an Engineer?. 2500 is a poor salary and i would say impossible for a person to make a living in Qatar these days.

If we even convert 2500/- to Indian Rupees its around 26000 RS these days.. I think in India the students make more in Call Centers.

As friendly advice, dont accept this offer. The cost of living is sky rocketing in Doha these days. Almost every thing has gone up in prices be it housing, food & transportation. I heard that fuel prices will go up as well. I would advice you to reconsider your offer as you are an Engineer and i am sure Engineers need to have a higher market value.

All the very best..

Best Regards
