Too many differences between D80 and D200. But if you are not professional (in this case you wouldn't have asked us), then D80 is more reasonable in terms of value for money. Most of the advancements in D200 will not make a big difference for light users.

And she'll be crying over her bank account.

Get the D80, almost as good and cheaper. But don't buy from Salam in Doha, it's a rip-off. I recommend the Nikon lens cleaning pen.

buy him D2X or D2Xs. He'll be the most happiest man in the world.

D40 is a 6 megapixel camera, D200 10 megapixel.

The D40 is an excellent camera at a very good price. The D200is on the pro threshold. An alternative to the D200 is the D80 which is a skinnier version of the D200 and less expensive.

Difficult choice.

Honey, you can not compare D40 and D200 as they're designed for diffrent segment.

we can say technically D200 is more like D2x (pro camera on nikon Line) and designed for serious-amateur while D40 is designed for entry-level. (D200 is one year older than D40)

The biggest negative of D40 is that this camera doesn't have internal "focus motor" on it's body. Lens focusing only available with nikon AFS-AFI lenses (Lens with internal motor focus).

in other words, you have to have AFS or AFI lenses to use autofocus.

Hope it's helpfull.

My friend has been using it.. its a nice one, but full of shit!! really.. hard to operate. but it is much cheaper than D 200 although D200 is twice faster than D40, but D40 is worth the money.
