National Day celebrations

Preparations are under way for Qatar’s National Day celebrations on December 18, which promises to be a spectacular occasion. Entertainment is expected to include live music, parades and a firework fiesta that Gulf Times sources have said could rival the lavish display witnessed last month in Dubai for the opening of the Atlantis hotel.

I'd be very, very surprised if they manage to match the Atlantis hotel fireworks! If they do, it will definitely be worth seeing.

it seems to start each day around 1700. Having taken a quick glance back at the agenda it seems just the one day they seem to have printed the light show as 1300-1300. They made same error with the camels on other days too, but ...

Hey! We all make mistakes lol

I certainly wants to see the fireworks but also I'd like to see the light show but I can't see how it will be any good at 1 o'clock in the afternoon - surely it needs to be dark!

Much appreciated!

I had no idea it all kicked off today! Although, I should have realised by the activity along The Corniche yesterday - some very big spotlights aimed at the sky!

if anyone has any details or can direct me to a site which gives info on the timings of the events.

We walked along The Corniche this morning and they are surely setting up for something BIG.

I would like to go down there on Thursday to watch all the celebrations, but when, what and where to go/park etc.

I realise the fireworks will be after dark, but what about during the day?

Anyone have any knowledge about this?

that's good.. it reminds me of our north amrerican "long weekends" when almost every month from September till May there is some holiday either on Friday or on Monday which makes your weekend longer.. i like it.. :)

I see. Well, if they pull off fireworks similar to those at Atlantis it will be spectacular (search youtube for Atlantis Fireworks if you haven't seen them already).

I'm not sure I trust these "Gulf Times sources" though!

yes, last year was the first time!but it wasn't really celebrated(the 18th of December was only recognized as a national holiday on April, 2007). As long as i remembered we have always celebrated the 3rd of September as Qatar independence day.

well, this is our first celebration of the newly decided national day.

I just hope that the whole Qatari culture is celebrated & displayed, not only the Bedouin heritage
