The MySpace VS Facebook Debate !!!

missmoneypenny
By missmoneypenny

Is Facebook taking over from MySpace as the more attractive online community choice...???

Lots of people have said that they like facebook as an online community because the layout is 'simple' ... And yesterday I heard a theory that modern-day young folk just need something new every once in a while, so they're ditching myspace for the next thing...

One work colleague calls facebook a 'stalker's paradise' ... which to be honest kind of gives me the heebiejeebies ha!!

x mp

p.s. Yes, even after swearing that I would not get lured into another online community I too gave into those innocent email 'friendship requests', & now find myself reading the facebook wall comments every couple of days..how did that happen?

or you could just list down at least 5 sites and let QLers rate them...what do you think?

Gotta go...good night Ms.MP (sorry for the short cut...just damn too lazy tonight...):-)

1. britishexpats.com

2. QL

3. friendster.com

4. zorpia.com

5. myspace.com

6. expatwoman.com (read only)

7. expatgossip.com (read only)

and the list go on ...

i have made alot of friends that i met through the expat websites. They are handy if you want to make new friends. :-)

Hi am turkish german is there any turkish community? Where do they meet ?

(There's an interesting question!)

1. QL (obviously...but I have to say i've been guilty of reading more than posting...very educational for media expats!)

2. YOUTUBE

3. Myspace

4. Facebook (yes i gave in...)

Wouldn't really call myself a cyber-community-obsessed person (i like real-life coffee dates too much ha!) but perhaps being part of 4-online communities does qualify part-geek status ...?

I like facebook way more than myspace. Myspace is just so unorganised and all over the place. But I have to agree with jassKat about the privacy thing, it used to be alot cooler when it was for college students and alumni only, not anyone. Now random people are joining just to hook up and it's really annoying, but still facebook is a great way to stay in touch with people thousands of miles away.

As for the hate list...what happened? what comment are u guys talking about it? and why did it get deleted? I was so happy to know so many people hated me!

Sorry I was late in joining you guys....I am now kinda having a life outside QL (joke only).

I know I have a myspace account and a facebook account but I don't remember the passwords anymore. i still receive requests from both sites but since I tagged them as spam, they automatically go to my bulk folders...

My daughter and I have our friendster accounts and we're active in that site. A lebanese friend of mine always shows me his facebook account and the pictures in it and tells me to do my facebook account...hmmmmmmm... I'll stick to Friendster and QL...

Honestly, I'm getting confused of all these sites...Hi5, Multiply, yahoo360, Tag, etc...

It's not fair to hijack missmoneypenny's thread to discuss this issue. I will open another one.

Ya Richard, DohaGirl went with some other posters and started a site called Qatar blah blah. Which failed miserably, and is now the home to a bunch of angry angry people who constantly modify posts and chase away anyone who doesn't agree with them. I hear she doesn't post there anymore.

Which jibe? The thread was a joke, it was very obvious that it was. He didn't have to go in there and be all self righteous about it, he could have chosen to ignore it, but he didn't, he made the comment and the comment was responded to.

Gypsy is a terrifying prospect. We had a poster on QL some time back called Doha Girl (don't know where she want) she didn't just get mad, she got even.

I think that is because it started out for college students only. You could not even create an account unless you had a verified valid university email.

Apparently, and according to the latest "research", FaceBook is used by people of a higher social standing.

Myspace is for Hispanic teens, etc. Tell that to Eric Clapton. He's got an official MySpace page.

I have both myspace and Facebook.

I like facebook better because it is easier to upload pictures, and I could find old friends easier then on myspace. I joined facebook when it first started, and I liked it a lot better before it changed. It used to be private, you had to have a university email to join. It wasn't so stalker like, and it was mainly just to know people at your university and in your courses. Now that it is open to anyone, it is more like a dating and hookup site with guys always sending messages to "chat and be friends."

I also don't like all the new applications facebook has, it feels like they are taking over. I do like being able to make groups for certain things, and being able to make them private.

Overall, I have to say that I like facebook better, although I wish it was still private.

I have no idea whatsoever what it is. But I had a request from an old friend to be on her page, it said click if you give permission, then it said enter a log in and password. I think I must have joined somehow because I have had about 50 requests from people now and when I say I am not in it they say "yes you are, I found you in a search". I am only in my early 30s but feel like a sad oldie, I really don't understand how it works...they didn't have facebook in my day...
