My view of this whole israel/lebanon situation

ithaka
By ithaka

Yesterday I saw the lebanese prime minister on tv almost crying about how bad his country was hit. And daily ive been seeing pictures of lebanese people being killed and injured by israel.

Now I place the blame of all the suffering  of the lebanese people on the govt of lebanon. It is their job to protect their citizens. Instead they are crying in front of the world asking others for help. Its like a small kid in the play ground getting beat up by a bully and not fighting back and expecting others to come to his rescue.

Why dont they have a proper army? why dont they have a proper airforce? Why are they helpless and asking others to stop the fight?

I say that when the fighting is over ,instead of crying and moaning they should build up thier military as much as possible.

My parents are originally from pakistan and while its one of the poorest countries right now, i know that even if israel was on our border it would never have attacked pakistan like that unless it wanted to be erased off the map.

I mean the hezbollah just have primitive rockets and they are still causing israel problems. why didnt the lebanese govt build up its arms in the peace time. russia and china make the best bang for buck arms in the world. Its lebanons fault they didnt buy them. Its lebanons fault they dont have the power to fight back.

The Lebanese govt is fully responsible for thier unability to protect their people. and their attitude that all the people should help them is even more pathetic, they should know after seeing iraq and afghanistan that no one has an obligation to help you.

You have to fight for yourself, you cant expect someone else to do it for you.

Lebanon n the latest results of the war with Israel reminded me of a story I once made up for my kid when he got in a fight with a bully in school. The bully was big n he kept attacking my son so he came saying he wanted to join a club so he will be strong n stop the bully. I told him this story:

A little fox lived in a jungle that was filled with wolves. Every time the fox will leave his hole, the wolves would see n try to catch him but he will always escape as he was faster. That continued for months until one day the fox left his hole n went btw the trees sneaking so he wont be seen. When he got to the middle of the jungle, he seen the wolves surrounding a big lion n trying to attack him. The fox thought for sure the lion will run but instead, the lion stood there n turned to the wolves then gave a huge roar that made all wolves run for their lives. So the fox started asking himself of he was running away all those months while he could have done what the lion has done.

The next day, the fox left his hole n walked like a lion without even a try to hide. Once the wolves surrounded him, he stood straight, looked the wolves in the eyes with extreme power n gave out a huge roar. Once finished, the wolves jumped on the fox n eaten him.

So for the ppl who say why Lebanon, or the Arab, do not should fight Israel n America with armies, I say learn from the Lebanon n the fox n only use ur strength against their weaknesses n not try to imitate what u can not achieve :)

What part of “Leave Pakistan out of this“ did you not understand.

What happened to your chest thumping when you got the reply from yyzguy, you went flat like 2 days old coca cola.

Now, you are not even a Pakistani anymore, shame on you.

Incite trouble and hide behind your American Passport and leave us to defend the land we love, defend the land we call HOME.

You make me sick…. Reason I told you “Leave Pakistan out of this is because I knew exactly that this is going to happen.

Use somebody else as an example next time.

Listen bro, Grow up and try to understand that abusing the name of my country only makes you look bad. Immature tactics of name calling should better be left to school children.

I got nothing against India, some of my best friends are from India. We have always manage to have mutual respect for our countries and get along very well.

If you respect your country then you know how it feels when somebody tries to abuse its name and same is felt by us when you call my country what you did.

Read my Motto Bro

Give Respect, Get Respect.

Its just he says his parents are pakistani and then talks about the pakistani border as "our border" and then when he gets a damn good thrashing from the others on the thread he denies his roots and reappears as an american. Sad, very sad indeed.

Ithaka, India and Pakistan have been at war with each other for decades, probably centuries. Hence, the nuclear standoff they are at right now.

And are you seriously telling me that any country in the world would use nuclear power in a situation like the current Israel/Lebanon one? If that is the case, why hasn't the US used nukes to simply wipe away Afghanistan? That's one way to kill Osama, right? And don't say it's not a similar situation, because it is very similar, a terrorist organization hidden within a soverign country that attacks another soverign country, which results in the victim waging war against the soverign country with the terrorist organization.

And I dare say the US/Afghanistan situation was far worse than the one that caused the Lebanon/Israel. And if the US is not justified in using nukes, why the hell would Lebanon use nukes against Israel. Not to mention that if they did the US would come to the rescue of its pet country, and cause Lebanon even more grief.

An Iran is the most powerful Islamic state right now. Pakistan is one of the poorest.

geeze! this topic is always like a can of worms waiting to be opened!

let's not toss insults at one another's countries. It is disrespectful..not to mention very much grade-school-ish.

and not that i would want to disagree or anything -god forbid- but i believe these days iran is perceived as the most powerful islamic state.

you all need to chill, anyone is free to post comments and views and we should respect that, if you disagree than give information, in the very least, in a civilized manner.

You are all strangers and none of you know each other's backgrounds, education, or experiences so just be polite and stop taking everythihng so personally.

Just correct people politely and tastefully...that may be the only way they learn anything from what you have to say.

Ithaka, you idiot, India not only defeated pussystan but humiliated it in ALL wars! Perhaps you should learn to read, you imbecile. Remember what India did to Pakistan (I mean pussystan) as it concerned Bangladesh -- we dismembered it! Remember? And far from destroying India, pussystan is still begging for Kashmir!

The more you speak, the more you sound like a sorry idiot, you fool.

Learn to read dohagirl. I said if israel attacked pakistan in the same way it has attacked lebanon it would have been wiped off the map. not if it was on the border the pakistanis would still attack it. Im saying this because i know how pakistans nuclear thresholds work.

"Nuclear weapons are aimed solely at India. In case that deterrence fails, they will be used if (a) India attacks Pakistan and conquers a large part of its territory (space threshold) (b) India destroys a large part either of its (Pakistan's) land or air forces (military threshold) (c) India proceeds to the economic strangling of Pakistan (economic threshold) and (d) India pushes Pakistan into political destabilisation or creates a large-scale internal subversion in Pakistan (domestic destabilisation)"

What israel is doing right now is pushing lebanon into political chaos. they are destroying lebanons infrastructure. What I said is if israel did the same thing to pakistan it would have been history by now.

And Im not even a pakistani(im american), I just used pakistan as an example because its the most powerful islamic state in the world and as a muslim I did some research about it.

And when did india attack pakistan like israel attacked lebanon?

Use some common sense yourself you dolt.

For me, I don't think Syria being in Lebanon would have stopped the attacks. Lebanon was hit so many times even when Syria was there n Syria never done anything, as it never wanted to start a major war.

As for Hozballah being in the south, then it was a choice by the Lebanese ppl n govt n not only other parties. The govt in its try to free the other parts of Lebanon from the Israeli occupation never wanted to take the risk of getting in a full war with Israel, n wanted only to be the party to smoothen things when it got hot. Like we see today where no one is talking about a full war btw Lebanon n Israel but only a war in the South btw a resistance, or as called by the west a terrorist, party n Israel. The tactic seems working till now :)

Enough politics for me n let mo go sleep :P

Now let me ask you another question, If syrian army was not kicked out year or so ago do you think Israel would have had the courage to do, what they are doing now.

Again let me say I am trying to undertand this situation better not make remarks or judgements.

The Lebanese Army was prevented from deploying along the border with Israel because of a "lack of national consensus". In plain speak that means Hezbollah's allies, Syria and Iran, did not permit it. Hence Hezbollah had full military and security control in the border regions. Even today when the Israeli airforce strikes the southern suburbs of Beirut where Hezbollah have many of their political and social bureaus no one is allowed in except under escort from Hezbollah.

Indeed Hezbollah fighters can be integrated into the security forces as a short or medium-term solution. That's what happened to the other militias at the end of the war.

It's the old regional power game and Lebanon, unfortunately, has very little say in it.

It is like blaming the poor for being poor. The story goes bigger than a kid bullied by a bigger kid. U say that the Lebanese govt should have done something while it is known they just came out of a civil war n an Israeli occupation in the yr 2000, 6 yrs ago. U say take arms from Russia n China while the US will not allow that n Lebanon does not have the money to buy from the black market. Israel has the 4th army in the world with more than 200 Nukes that can destroy the whole of the ME n Lebanon if invested all its income for the next 200 yrs, will not match. The US is providing Israel with $6 Billions in aid n that when there is no war. If there was a war then that aid will double n even the US may intervene militarily. Israel as shown from the last proposal to the UN is supported heavily by the west n in no way it will be let to be harmed.. So much to cover to say why Lebanon cannot compete with Israel even if it wanted to.

So the best solution n protection for Lebanon at this stage is the resistance n gorilla wars n not a full governmental army. U r like a person who checked the ending of a movie n judged the whole film according to it. Maybe u will need to read about the subject more :)

Do you not think that integrating hizb into army after Israel left south would have been a wise thing to do.... You cannot have 2 powers rulling one country?? Just asking for your opinion.

Lebanon is JUST getting over a civil war you idiot. They haven't had enough time to build a military. "If Israel was on the border of Pakistan we would have wiped them off the map" Ya, cause obviously you've done it with India. It's called common sense, get some.

What's pathetic is your making such ignorant pronouncements about something you obviously know diddly-squat about.

But, hey, as you said these are your views.

Get an education. In life!!! I could go on but you don't strike me as someone who is intellectually stimulating and worth the discourse.
