“It is a great injustice to persecute homosexuality as a crime, and cruelty too”

Segmund--

1. Qatar Living is listed in a Western nation and has its servers in a Western nation in which homosexuality is not illegal. It is not "here' as you say, and it is not required to abide by the laws of Qatar any more than it must abide by those of Guam. Users are asked to be sensitive to Qatari laws in their posts because this is a forum intended to be used by people living in or associated with Qatar (in fact much of the traffic is from North America, Europe and South Asia IP addresses). This is all public info btw.

2. Is your obsession with homosexuality your way of telling us something? Your namesake would certainly say so. And in case you are planning to ask me out, I'm not gay; but I don't have a problem with people who are. So I'm truly not bothered by your accusations. Unlike you I am comfortable in my sexuality.

Good luck facing your demons.

You guys are completing taking it the wrong way. I have no problem with the fact that you, Rayan or anyone for that matter has a homosexual orientation. You could spend the rest of your days having bumfun for all I care. However, I do mind if you post such topics here on this site.

Talking about homos may be public service to you, it is illegal here and any issue related to it has a possibility of being prosecuted. If you are so keen on spreading this homo cause of yours, just make another site and do whatever you want. You had better met your partners there, rather than here.

I never said it is a family site (is there anything such as that?) I was just saying that QL has a family like environment. Most of the people who post here are known to each other. Since certain topics are taboo and do not go well in this culture, they are best not touched. Why can you not just understand this? Why do you have to promote your homosexual cause here? What will you get out of it? I wish the authorities takes into notice someone's statment who thinks promoting homosexuality is a public service in Qatar.

It is not about being or not a public service. It is simply about what is permissible in a certain situation. Here it is not permissible to discuss such issues. Now, I swear to God retard is a very small word for someone who can not understand a simple premise.

No one just wants this public service on this website ok. Especially not the moderators, not the authorities and many site viewers including myself.

I am never saying anything against you. You could be every inch a gay and I would still never be against you for your orientation. All I am trying to achieve is to tell you not to use the site for this kind of 'public service'.

It's 2012. Anyone who doesn't believe in equal rights for homosexuals is a caveman. The thread I posted was completely harmless. I respect QL's decision to remove it on the basis that a thread like that could have gotten QL.com blocked in Qatar, but I do not respect intolerance towards homosexuals.

(Thanks to those of you who stuck up for me here.) ;)

Anyway, mods, rest assured I'll go back to posting about rent prices, food and cars.

By Bachus• 8 Sep 2012 07:23

Nothing wrong with RyanCanuck's thread IMO. I'm surprised they deleted it just for it's topic of homosexuality. Plenty of other stuff on QL about it. Besides, in culture in which the discussion of homosexuality is taboo, such a thread should be seen as a public service.

Segmund--homosexuals have families--sometimes closeted ones and, in an increasing number of countries, they do so as open gays. And if this a a "family" site, why are there advertisements for ways to meet girls on some of the threads?

Calling someone a "retard" is far more offensive. You should apologize.

By RyanCanuck• 8 Sep 2012 07:20

Oxford's take:

http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/retard

offensive

a person who has a mental disability (often used as a general term of abuse).

The future of some children is in danger. Wikis are a last thing to be given as a link. They have been written by non-professional and ordinary folks. A good teacher would always discourage the use of wikis.

But anyways, do not try to slip out from the issue, by referring to unimportant things ok. You posted something wrong, and just admit it.

By RyanCanuck• 8 Sep 2012 02:16

Wiktionary's definition:

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/retard

retard

(offensive slang) A person with mental retardation.

(offensive slang) A stupid person, or one who is slow to learn.

By Segmund• 8 Sep 2012 02:13
Segmund

Your majesty might find it useful to know retard is not a term to be used for any disabled person. I hate to digress from topics, but since your highness demands it, let me explain. The word retard is not a medical term and has NEVER been used to refer to a person with a mental retardation, the actual term has been cast out now. Instead the term, mental disability is to be used for people with mental handicap.

Thus retards are not the people with handicap. They are just a bunch of those whose IQ is perfectly average but are just trying to be a PIA (not Pakistan International Airlines).

By RyanCanuck• 8 Sep 2012 01:59
RyanCanuck

The Special Olympics just finished and you throw around the word 'retard' like it's nothing at all. You should be ashamed. Such intolerance!

By Segmund• 8 Sep 2012 01:57
Segmund

By retard, I do not mean those with a handicap of low intelligence quotient. I believe those people are equally human and deserve all our compassion. The kind of retards I am talking about are actually average IQ and they do not have any handicap except that they just refuse to understand the common virtue of saying something nice and not saying things that are offensive to others.

As to the losers, I am sorry for using the word. I promise I wont repeat it.

As to fakeuk, I told you, you remind me of that person MIH. And I just cant help thinking you are the same person. I might be wrong but I am true in what I feel.

By RyanCanuck• 8 Sep 2012 01:40
RyanCanuck

By the way, I don't appreciate being called a 'retard' (which shows how insensitive you are towards handicapped people), 'loser' or 'Fakeuk' (whatever that is).

Take it easy, Segmund. It was a silly little test. You are going off the deep end like a 2 year old.

By Segmund• 8 Sep 2012 01:34
Segmund

Homosexuality was a mental disorder, according to DSM (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders) until the 70s. So you think we were living in caves until then. What a joke!

It is not about rights for homos. It is about whether it is allowed or forbidden to be a homo. In Islam, it is forbidden--- strictly. In this country, it is forbidden--- strictly. And therefore it is not ok to discuss, or worse promote, homosexuality on a public site like this.

Why the hell do you think QL is a good channel to choose for promote your homosexual cause? Did you not find any other site?

By Segmund• 8 Sep 2012 01:24
Segmund

If it was a topic from a random person, probably it would have not gotten any notice from me, or there. But what I see here is a patter of constantly bombarding the forum with posts of similar nature, mostly guiled in a manner as to not call much attention all at once. Who would have let the post about homosexuality stay here for so long unless these test thingie had not been added to it. You add humor to it, and chances are you still are able to share your piece of mind, without being seriously scrutinized. But that would work only if it is once, or at least twice. As Shakespear once said, you cant make a fool of all the people all the time.

You should be happy that just your posts---and not you--- were deleted. In your interest, it is better if you just go through the guidelines. It will be good.

Nomerci...agree with the quality thing. Only get to hear that with none stating that actually having contributed one, atleast not since early 2008 when I started peeping in.

As for the topic that got deleted and the kids being kept from accessing QL because of such topics guess if grown ups like Segmund, based on what he has stated which makes sense atleast to me and so is alright with me, find it not acceptable how would there kids be allowed. Anyways, I didnt find the topic either funny, humorous or anything which even remotely deserved participation, generally 'meaningless', but again that is just me... some may find it otherwise.

Wow... I'm beginning to understand what grow up means :)

Prism..quality? Quality in reference to QL is pretty much a paradox, lol. I do not think many people expect or experience quality on QL...well...or maybe they do...anyway....

And I , for ONE (lonely soul here on QL),...do not think kids should not be on here because of the kind of thread that Ryan has posted...BUT, that is most probably only me or one or two other people....the rest seems to be ok with the other "quality" posts.

By Prism• 8 Sep 2012 00:09
Prism

From what Segmund has said, in all probability most may not like there kids on this site cos of the threads of the kind which got deleted.

As an aside, would that deleted thread topic be considered as a 'quality' topic, a much talked about term by the people from the past.

By nomerci• 7 Sep 2012 23:59
nomerci

Ryan, as you can see...humour is not a strong point here....;)

And Segmund, I have to say, IF this is supposed to be a "family " site, there are much worse things said on here than what Ryan was posting...I most certainly would not allow my kids to be on this site. And the reason is most certainly not a thread like Ryan posted...

By Segmund• 7 Sep 2012 23:49

Some losers fail to realize how important it is not to play with the feelings and emotions of others. This is a muslim country with a conservative environment and here homosexuality is not permitted. Why is it so difficult for some people to just stop talking about a topic which is not going to be liked by most of the members, moderators and even authorities.

RyanFakeuk, is there nothing else to talk about with you than gays, beers and expat wives?

Get a life man. Do not spoil the beautiful and family like environment of QL. If you do not have something good to say, just stay quiet.

Can I just throw in a comment about my Canadian friend who has recently been wondering if his girlfriend is the one for him.

However, after a quick look through her clothes drawer he is reconsidering.

"What made you change your mind?" I asked

"Well" says He "when I looked in her drawer, I found a nurses outfit, a French maids outfit and a police woman's outfit and to be honest, if she can't hold a job down, she ain't the one for me......"
