Moving to Doha

Hi There!

We are moving to Doha in April.  Can you please ofer any information on Doha that is especially useful.  We are moving from Boston, USA.  We are no strangers to expat life having lived in Cairo for 3 1/2 years.  Most important -  how are schools?  Our daughter is 5 and will most likeley start in Sept 07.  Should we bring anything with us from the states that you can't find in Doha?  As well, would anyone now if there is a turkish community?  Looking forward to relocating to Doha!  Looks very exciting with all of the new developments.

Small correction from jungo warrior posting above. Doha college is also UK curriculum. American school Doha provides american education.

This is fantastic info. Thank you soo much! I am actually american, but might as well be turkish because i love Turkey soo much. My husband is the true Turk!! Our daughter speaks turkish and english and would love to get an abla for her while we are living in Doha. Great to hear they have good quality turkish restaurants.

What business sector are you in? where are you from?

Where are the best places to live? we like to be near the city.

probably spelt above wrong

you will experience the usual frustration of settling in, red tape abounds, rule changes e.t.c. Plenty of Schools for all ages including Doha college (American) DESS (UK), although there are alegdly waiting lists, so get on them quickly.

Apart from the pork and alcohol products, everything is available here, as Qatar imports virtually everything, prices will are equivelent or a little above UK prices, especially european imported foodstuffs.

You would best be suited to trawl through this website, there is a lot of very good information, one bit of advice is to ensure that the cost of accomodation is picked up by the employer, don't ask for an allowance as it may not be enough by next year, just see the amount of moving to Doha threads.

There is a fair amount of Turks here and there is a Turkish womens society, however my wife who is from Gaziantep, thought they were a little snobish for her liking. She has Turkish friends, some of the Turkish restaurants are of a very high quality, but I can't get Iskender kebap (boo hoo).

If you want the wife to contact you just write down your e mail and she will give her views.
