Moving to Doha
My husband has accepted a position in Doha, relocating in September 06. Not sure what to expect when we get there. I would appreciate any information someone could provide.  What is the dining and shopping like for expats? How conservative is the dress for a married woman in Doha, what type of dress is acceptable? What are the security concerns you face living in Doha? Â
I am locking the door tonight!
This is an amusing tail of theft from Qatar and it actually happened.
A friend went on leave asking his mate to keep an eye on the villa.
To wind up the one one leave, his mate emptied the optics and bottles replacing the booze with cold tea, water and other such fake solutions.
When the one returned from leave, he was straight round to his mate the report the theft of his booze.
He HAD been burgled the night before he came back and thay had stolen all the fake booze!
They also lived on a compound!
Hello all,
I would recommend locking all doors and windows of vehicles or accommodation with a good padlock and the door made of really good quality, as crime has increased in Qatar.
Our office was broken into a few days back and the only thing stolen is money and laptops. Computers, tv's, fridges etc etc are not taken. According to the police, this is happening with great frequency.
Most of the time it is local kids, out for some fun and quick money.
oops i do but i live on a compound
I know that Qatar is relatively crime free compared to many other places but don't even think of leaving your doors unlocked (car or accommodation)!
In order to your questions shopping dining fine you can go anywhere, dress how you like to but would advise trousers when you go shopping! Security well most of the people i know even leave their doors unlocked!
