the morning chaos.

good morning qlers.
today i am off, so i went to drop my son to his school in abu hamour so that my wife could enjoy the luxary of the morning nap.
the traffic situation seemed worse than a horror movie. cars lined up every where ,on every directions. far more cars were off road than on road. every now and then a car would cross over from right or left, off road, cutting you off like some thing real crazy and scary out of this earth.even an alien with a ufo type vehicle would have been more courteous. it appeared as if traffic rules never existed.i was wondering whether these suvs are modern days camels(traffic rules do not apply for both)perhaps these suvs are driven by camel jockeys, well that explains a lot.
while the suvs were racing off road, other saloon cars were jumping from road, to off road, back and forth continuously. people who were following the traffic rules appeared like loosers while peoples who behaved like camels appeared quite smart. do we have to behave like a camel if we need to survive here? this question has been baffling me for quite a while now.
why are the people so impatient when they are driving? stupidly impatient and at times dangerously impatient, ready to risk lives. what for? just to reach their work place and enjoy kahwa and chai. where does that enthusiasm, energy and killer instict go when these people reach their work place?
i saw groups of cars involved in crashes at 2 places and i feel sorry for their losses. i seriosly think that the traffic laws need to be implemented strictly. just making the traffic violation fines heavier is not going to solve the problem.it has become a sort of status symbol.i have met people who state without guilt, rather with a sense of pride how much they have paid last year as traffic fines and how much they have accumulated so far this year.the traffic law violators should be made to spend time with the traffic police personnels, learning the rules and at the same time teaching the same to the general public.
well, i think thats enough, thanks for you attention, good bye, have a nice day.

10 years in the Gulf, no accidents (although I did have to grow 2 more eyes in the back of my head). DM, I agree that the driving is absolutely awful but I find your reference to camels insulting.

based on the data collected,i think the little amount of decency seen on qatar roads is just because of qlers.

keep up the nice work qlers.

Expatgeezer.. do you think I have an odometer in my feet when I said 80,000 kms? I should add my wife's record also here: 2.5 years, 25,000 kms, no road accident, no ticket violations.

wow thats quite impressive. i must admit, i have been driving around for around 6 years now, covered around 150,000kms here, had an accident once in 2007. so far no traffic violations.

alcoholic...nobody can defy science, but while driving, traffic rules are more important. following rules makes your driving safe and predictable.

I am always prepared for earthquakes, tsunamis, radioactive fallouts, and incredible idiots on the roads. I also know enough physics to calculate the distance a car needs to come to a halt. (Some 50 meters for 100 km/h). Therefore I survived more than 400.000 km of driving in Qatar without accident so far.
