Ministry of Information???
By MikaylasMom •
I ordered a book recently and had it shipped with Aramex. They sent me a SMS and said they needed me to contact them. When I spoke to the man in charge he said that I needed to fill out a form and take it to the Ministry of Information in order for the book to clear customs, and then he said that I could let Aramex clear it for me but it would take a week. Does anyone know what the Ministry of Information is and why my book is with them and not customs? Does this mean that the book I ordered is controversial, or is this just a random screening of incoming literature? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!
... but everything we receive, be it from home, Amazon or Aramex has been opened, (presumably) inspected, and resealed with a stamp. This has ranged from reasonably controversial(by local standards)literature, home made DvD's which could have anything on them, childrens' gifts to fairly expensive artworks. Just the way it is...
Thanks Aisha-Taweela. I hope there is not a problem with it. Truth is, I ordered several books, some have already made it to me, and I don't know which one it is that the MOI has. I guess I will know more in a few days.
The ministry of information used to screen all publications, music & films. I thought they had been abandoned. If they are still in excistance well, I think it is just a matter of policy that is not really important. Maybe the book you wanted is contraversial or not on their list and if they know it is for an individual, no problem.Have them clear the paper for you. If there does seem to be a problem, just explain that the book is for personal use.
