I have a better idea. Why don't they open to all the "racers" Lusail ring and let them do what they want there including killing themselves?

I witnessed with my own eyes the accident which was caused by reckless driving of the 15 years old Prince Faisal of Bahrain, who died in this same accident. Not only this idiot took his life, he killed innocent people. I was in my car 30-40 meters from the place when it had happened. Not a sight for a faint-hearted.

Gulf arabs grow up in the cars seeing their fathers and their drivers (everybody knows where they come from and where they learn to drive) violating all the possible and impossible traffic rules. What do you expect from them? Like father like son.

Traffic rules must be taught in the schools and kindergartens, while people from certain countries where no rules are enforced, and where major cities have no traffic lights, should be prohibited to drive in the Gulf (and the rest of the world) at all.

And all Qataris under 40 should be forced to drive one of the following choices

a) Camel

b) Donkey

c) Bike

d) Combination of the above

Fines are meaningless because Qataris do nor PAY. They have WASTA!

Fines don't do crap here, because the guys driving like this don't care about money. They can write off a lamborghini every couple of weeks, what do they care about a 10,000 or 20,000 QR fine, Ditto with letting them off at paying blood money. The punishments NEED to be jail time and criminal records that will haunt them the rest of their lives or they'll never respect the laws.

By GodFather.• 3 May 2009 14:14
GodFather.

Yes hard hitting fines and jail imprisonment will have to be brought in, to fend off this trend of reckless driving on the roads of Qatar.

They have to act swiftly before more innocent lives are lost.

InShallah the government will take notice now and pass stricter rules about street racing, wreckless driving, and more importantly make sure they are IMPOSED on the Qatari population.

Fines won't solve the problem, only hard jail time will.

truly tragic and must be terrible for his wife and children. Lets hope that (as tragic as this is)now somebody high up has been killed, the traffic laws over here will become stricter.

Interestingly enough this was reported on the news in Abu Dhabi on Friday.

Will there be a period of mourning here as in schools and offices shut or does that not happen here when a Royal dies?

A dear friend died in a similar accident in Saudi. Two youngsters were racing fro the oposite direction. One "clipped" the other. The "Yukon Denali" went airborne and landed on my friend's Cressida.

I had to go to hospital to identify his body. I would not wish it on anyone.

ngourlay- excellent idea- don't allow young men (under, say 30?) to drive these huge, powerful cars. They have no common sense, are reckless, and the Qatari ones have so much money that fines are meaningless.

SOMETHING should be done- Qatar is becoming a horrible place to live, because going anywhere is such a huge hassle.

the problem I see about traffic violation here is too harsh for the expats but too lean when it comes to the locals. Thousand Rials to an expat is too much but for a local, it's peanut! Buying a big car is too much for expat while chicken to the locals. They should make the violation fee commensurate on the the violator. Maybe the local will feel the gravity of the offense by paying more! And they can also consider the age of the violator specifically on accident resulting to death!

But I want to ask MOI that how much blood will be shed by such a**holes drivers when MOI will take really a serious action & strategy.

.

A huge fines (which cannot be revoked with any reason) & long sentence to such drivers.I'm really very much sad on Minister's death. This clearly shows how easy to kill a humanbeing in this country.

.

I would urge to the government not to have any mercy to such drivers who race for death and then they should be given death even if they are found in a miserable condition.

.

Friends, our & our family's lives are no longer save on Qatar's roads. We all must get very vigilant & report to police about such jerks behind wheels.

... and maybe one day the police will wake up and do something about reckless driving. Just taking pictures will not solve the problem. You can never get it down to zero deaths, but the current rate in Qatar is unacceptable. What will it take before people's lives are saved???? The Emir to be killed in a car accident???

Young men in high-performance vehicles are a lethal combination.

In the UK, insurers simply deny policies to under-30s applying for large-engined cars as they are a bad risk. Whenever this has been suggested in Qatar, it is swiftly rebuked as unworkable or unfair.

Young men should drive small cars. There is simply nothing that can be done to make a young man into a safe driver of a fast car.

By donosa• 2 May 2009 13:27
donosa

If you're driving any small car, Landcruisers are lethal. I fear of them, because they drive recklessly all over the city, they don't respect speed limits or any traffic law whatsoever! I fear, because I'm driving with 2 kids, and I wouldn't forgive myself if anything happens. Which brings me to another subject: safety belts!! I don't know how they can even start the car when the little ones are not properly seated and wearing seat belts! I think it's time the traffic police starts to be more strict about these issues! If they were, we would see everyone wearing safety belts and driving carefully!

Just because they are wealthy, doesn't mean they have the right to be unconscious towards other people's lives. I wouldn't ever forgive my self if my recklessness ever hurt or killed someone else!

Minister dies in car crash

Sheikh Fahd bin Jassim

Qatar’s Minister of Business and Trade HE Sheikh Fahd bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Abdurrahman al-Thani has been killed in a car accident

HE the Minister of Business and Trade Sheikh Fahd bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Abdurrahman al-Thani died in a car accident late Thursday.

He was on his way to Wakrah when a Land Cruiser hit the minister’s car. The minister died instantly. A person accompanying the minister was admitted to hospital with serious injuries.

Sheikh Fahd bin Jassim, 40, was a graduate in telecommunications engineering from the University of Kent in the UK.

He had joined the Qtel in 1997 and rose to the position of director of operations. He was inducted into the Cabinet last July. He was also a board member of the Qatar Investment Authority and the Doha Stock Market.

Police were questioning the driver who was involved in the accident. Sources said the motorist was apparently racing another car before colliding with the minister’s vehicle.

The public prosecution listened to the statement of the driver, a Qatari national aged 20, before ordering him to be kept in custody.

The accident took place 1km away from Abdul Ghani Roundabout next to Ras Abu Fontas on Al Wakrah road

Qatari businessmen yesterday expressed their shock over the minister’s death, saying it was a huge loss for the entire nation.

The Business and Trade Ministry Undersecretary Mohamed Hasan al-Saadi paid tribute to the minister’s contributions and hard work.

Al-Saadi said Sheikh Fahd was friendly and modest “who dealt with everyone with respect and love”.

“He was extremely loyal and sincere to his job and was often seen in the ministry even beyond the normal working hours.”

The chairman of Trans-Continent for Exhibitions Muteeb Saaq said the late minister was personally following up the progress on the fourth international exhibition for real estate and investment scheduled to open in Doha on May 25.

Qtel’s executive manager of customer service Waleed al-Sayed said the late minister “was like a brother to all”.
