Middle East. Which countries?

What countries are considered to be from the Middle East Region? I noticed that many refer to the Arab countries as Middle East, and would like to know if others know what the "Middle East" is.

Cyprus is in the Med, Egypt and Libya are in North Africa and in a region that was called (in the UK many years ago) the Near East, Turkey is attached to Europe but I suppose the Far East of Turkey could be counted.

The map is a joke. It shows Bulgaria, Romania, (parts of Russia, Macedonia Greece and Yugoslavia), Ukrain, Georgia plus a lot of other ex Russian states.

Obviously it's produced in the US ;)

I would have thought consisted of:

Saudi, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Oman, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Israel and the Yemen

Pakistan and Afghanistan? I wouldn't have thought so.
