Michael E. Debakey School

I would just like to inform everyone about an American School, the Micheal E. DeBakey School. It is a high school that is modeled by it's branch in Houston. The administration that is running the school here is horriable. I would advise all parents to look into the school, especially the administration, carefully before enrolling your child. The management is very poor and I can only imagine what is going on in the inside. It is no wonder why the school has a very low enrollment and is still trying to get students for next year, while all other schools around Doha have a waiting list.

The school is located around the corner from the Al Rayaan Driving School. And the people that are running the school ie - the principal, the curriculum director and the CEO of the schooll have come from the Texas school - so thats who is running it, as well there are a cple of teachers from the Texas school also - they have come here to try and replicate the school here , as it is a very successful school in the US - but not too sure if the same thing will happen here.

It is a very specialised school maybe thats why they cannot fill the places - they only teach very specialised subjects.

But I have to agree with nmma2008.

qd06- Again, I am not bashing the school, I am informing other parents, just like I would like to be informed. Isn't this what QL is for? To get information on different topics in Qatar. I do understand that the school is just starting, and if you read my post and not just what Novita's reply was, you will see that I was talking about the administration. You are right about the school in Houston being talked about in the same way and that is because it was run by the same admin then. Well now they are here, and while the school in Houston, under new admin is doing better, the one in Qatar is not. So simply said, the school is good the administration needs work.

Novita,

The school is modeled after a high school in Houston with the same name. Its focus is on students who want to pursue higher education in the health profession i.e. the Debakey name.

I agree on the school bashing threads. They tend to be many and many times from a disgruntled parent or former employee. The school is just getting started so as with anything give it time.

The funny thing is they said the same thing about the Houston campus when the school first opened in Houston. Also Geoffrey Dr. Debakey was far from selfish many people owe their lives to the research and work that he did. He lived well into his 90's and was still working hard everyday.

I do have reason, that is why I posted this. But I do not feel that I need to go into exact detail, there is not enough time or space on here to do that. I am again, just informing parents of my experience there. Now if you have a child you are considering to enroll there and you would like to know more about the issues I faced, then feel free to PM me and parent to parent I can share with you what I found the school to be.

And Geoffrey, again what are you talking about? Michael E. DeBakey is the name of the school and it was named after the doctor who preformed the first heart surgery. It is not his school. As a matter of fact, it is not owned by any one person, it is a public school.

You bad mouthing the school without any reason. You said the administration is horrible without giving further explanation.

NOVITA---It's not so much a bashing as it is a warning to other parents. As a parent myself looking for the best school for my children I would want feedback. Geoffrey--- NO, I do not have a school, I am a concerned parent speaking to other parents, I would not call that being selfish at all.
