Megamart strikes again!

Just thought I should warn everyone who shops at Megamart, to check the expiry dates on what they buy.

I came home with 12 cans of Whiskas cat food (not cheap) at the weekend and couldnt understand why my cats wouldnt eat it.

I checked the expiry date on the cans and all of them expired 4 months ago!

Wish I'd kept the receipt :(

Qatar living for a few months and im glad peeps are still keeping the heat on the Mart, kinda makes me think about the 14 QR chickens from the Deli, am i playing with my life. The soy milk for 80 odd QR is still amazing to me, if you need back up returning the cat food hit me up, always looking for a good argument :P

It's a lack of awareness is all it is...they sell those products nearing expiry because there are people out there willing to buy it...

So this also proves Cats are clever than human...... better we need to be vigilant and shope like Megamart stocking such expired food should be banned also shows Name doesnt mean Quality here.

Of course we have to always check it. But it is just natural and civilized to assume groceries stores wont try to sell something that is no good for consumption anymore. In a normal place we check it out just to avoid some mistake or accident, like a last product left on the shelf or forgotten there. Not because it is part of the culture of the place to sell expired products.

yes......but it shouldn't be

"Deaths in the Bible. God - 2,270,365

not including the victims of Noah's flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, or the

many plagues, famines, fiery serpents, etc because no specific numbers

were given. Satan - 10."

it's our responsibility too as a consumer to check on items expiry date before actually buying it.

Well, from what I have seen, no matter where you do your groceries... it seems that LOADS of almost expiring products are on the supermarkets shelves here. No matter where... I have always found expired or about to expire products and they are NOT always on sale... It is just a lack of care. Typical from this part of the world.

I dont think it's megamart problem, I bought a few weeks ago ''Babybel'' french cheese from Giant market, I open it and it had a hard white layer and mould growing as well, I returned it of course and went to carrefour got an other one, thinking it s french product so.... I found the same picture... Something is probably wrong with the storage or controle import from baladya. Be carreful.

You can shop there as well??? I thought it was just a place you went to meet ladies of a certain persuasion hence the hoards of single guys meandering about!! Anyway, you'll have to excuse me, I'm off to do my shopping at MegaMart.........

I've bought cooked smoked turkey from Megamart twice (months apart) and both times when I got home and opened the packet the turkey had mould growing on it. Won't be shopping there anymore.

Yes. I have noticed that many of Megamart items expires soon.. But I think I noticed that many these items are heavily discounted (I think to compensate for the expiry factor).

Still, unlike shopping at Carefour one should take extra care when shopping at Megamart when it comes to checking the expiry date of the items intended to be purchased

for those who haven't yet noticed, most of megamart's food products are closer to expiry than they are to manufacture & that my friends is how they get this stuff cheap & sell it here as a 'premium' product...6 bucks for a kitkat chunky as opposed to less than half that elsewhere, why? 'cos it's made in the UK/Australia,i still buy it 'cos it DEFINITELY tastes better than the crap that's made in Dubai or Egypt or wherever but the fact is,it's always just a few months to expiry, having been manufactured like a good 10 months to a year back,it's not illegal to do it but it's unethical but hey megamart's owned/run by Sindhis so all my Indian brothers & sisters out there understand that ethics isn't a word in their business dictionary...so ya as a result of that policy,a fair amount of the stuff would run past expiry wouldn't it?...considering most of it's close anyways...don't believe me?...check out the dates on most of the chocolates...

Megamart is one item at the top of my "positives" list of living in Doha. Taking it off would mean the "negatives" would vastly outweigh the positives and I would need to move. I will sleep much better tonight and not dread coming back to Doha in August. Thanks.

Although I did lose 15 pounds the first month I lived in Doha and only knew how to find LuLu Hypermarket. :)

Surprisingly, your cats are down to earth type. Their usual meal normally comes from a garbage bins, rotten fish or raw mouse. Probably thats the reason why that items are still for sale.

:-(

Can't really get into Carrefour (although I buy a lot of the basics there) or FFC (yuck).

For good according to the staff (who looked very pleased at not having to wear uniform!)... They'd already ripped the freezers out of the middle and there was almost no stock left on the shelves!

There's a shortage of pet food everywhere at the moment! We're having problems finding the big bags of food for the shelter at the moment.

I know Megamart had a 40% off all pet food today as they're closing but they might have shut by now...

Just went to try and get some replacement cat food at Family Foods on Al Mirqab. Most of the tins there are also out of date! Is there a cat food shortage?!

actually, I just remembered being in Carrefour (City Center) and having a look at the meat sausages (next to the kofta beef) on the Meat section... Gosh, it was already June 23rd and they had a sticker, big sticker, reading "Best Before JUNE 21" ¬¬'

And I was wondering why was that section closed a few months ago.......

Yes and double, triple check when places bundle the products and put them on special! Not just a phenomena here all hypermarkets do that to clear unsold inventory.

Sorry to hear that!! I find that they have lots of things sitting there for ages... of course, with those prices.....
