Have anybody of QL fellows got married in Qatar? I am not Muslim, and my boyfriend is, so i am wondering about a civil marriage. How does it work? where in Qatar you can register this kind of marriage? thanks guys!!
She married in the UK under a special licence. Oddly enough, her husband could get married immediately he arrived and the licence obtained. Our daughter had to be resident for 3 weeks and then had to wait an additional four days for the special licence before she could get married. there was nothing on his record it was a just tha pratt that was consulate at that time.
He had even told his secretary that we had been advised of the banns being taken down.
I had my revenge before the wedding as he wanted to see me on business (he had a FO Inspector coming to check some of his work). He wanted to see me on the Thursday beauuse the inspector was coming on Saturday. I could only accommodate him on the Sunday....what a shame :-)
We were more than a bit p*ssed off with him as the dress, cake and invitations were in Qatar. It was also an expensive leave as our son was married only four days after our daughter.
Certificate of singleness should be from your country... after you get it, you should translate it to arabic. for that you need first to take it to your embassy to stamp it (validate it), then to ministry of foreign affairs (near Al Bustan hotel) to stamp it again, then take it for arabic translation in any of the translation centres in sofitel.
Hope this is helpful, if you need further details let me know coz i have been through all this..
Our daughter was to be married to a Tunisian Muslim in Qatar and the marriage was arranged via the British Embassy (Marriage Officer) who at that time was the Consul. In our (or should I say our daughters)case, he changed his mind as he was prejudiced against her husband to be and took down the banns without telling us. Basically and he admitted as much in private, he was racially prejudiced.
Initially, we were advised that the groom had to obtain permission from the Sharia Court but as he wasn't Qatari they didn't want to know.
If you need to check the details I suggest you contact your national embassy.
If you are British, it may be beneficial to check the "Foreign Marriages Act", a copy of which you may be able to obtain at the embassy.

I believe the Shariah Court will officiate the marriage of a Muslim man with a Christian woman. No need to be Qatari. Just go and enquire.
I have a friend that has a certificate of swinging singleness. A real party animal.....

Hey Black cat
If you can not get married in your embassy or in your fiancee's embassy, all what you need to do is to provide these documents to Shariaa Court:
*Copy of your passport and of your fiancee's
*Copy of valid residence visa for both of you (both must be resident)
*Original Certificate of singleness that you have to stamp it in your embassy and in the ministry of forein affairs then translate in arabic.
* A letter mentioning that you would like to marry your fiancee and that you are christian and he is muslim and so..
present all this to the shariaa court who will fix you an appointment in the next two or three days.
Bye
So what happened to your daughter then Dweller? Did she marry him elsewhere?
And if the banns were already posted but then taken down, maybe they had some information about him that meant they thought he was unsuitable.

You can go to sharia court and do the same.
Under Islam, it is possible for a muslim man to marry a woman 'of the book', i.e. Christian or Jewish.
I don't know whether Qatar permits this, but I think if it's governed by shariah law, they should.
If you're not muslim or christian or jewish, then there may be a problem.
And whereas Muslim men can marry muslim, christian or jewish women, a muslim woman can only marry a muslim man.
Me and my husband got married here in Qatar but his British citizen, British Embassy got a church and a vicar for that so we just went there....
I am not sure about Sharia Court or Muslim marriage customs. You can get married according common law in your embassy.
and what about "First Instance Sharia Court"? is it only for the case when both bride and groom are muslims?
if you are non-qatari, go to your country's embassy (or your boyfriend's) register your marriage there
Hello
Even if you are not muslim it's possible to get married with muslim boyfriend, but i don't know where you can register.
