Man who married 11 women arrested

A 52-year-old man from Kerala’s Thrissur district has landed in the police net for marrying eleven women. Erinchery Thomson of Ollur, Thrissur, who married 11 women but never deserted any of them, says he did it due to his desire to live with as many women as possible.

According to the police, Thomson, who used to work in the Gulf till recently, had adopted the modus operandi of giving matrimonial advertisements in newspapers inviting proposals from girls of poor families, saying he was a 39-year-old widower working in the Gulf. He would take particular care to add in the ad the caste-no bar clause.

Once he came to direct contact with the families of the women, he would win their hearts with his charming behaviour, promises to help them with money, home, etc, which he never failed to provide. After each marriage, he would live with the woman for some days and leave her saying it was time to return to Gulf.

Thomson, who assumed different names for the purpose of marriages, had started his strange game in 2001. Since then he married ten women. His first marriage, with the consent of his family, was in 1984, and that first wife , belongs to Manjally family, thrissur was still living in the Gulf with his two children (one girl and boy )in that relationship. He had lost his job in the Gulf six months back.

The happy period of ‘successful marriages’ came to an end on Wednesday when he was arrested by the police in Alappuzha, two days after his marriage with a woman of Kuthirappanthi, Alappuzha. One of the neighbours had developed suspicions when Thomason married her at her home at 4.00 pm Monday and this led to the arrest.

Just 20 days ago, he had married a woman from Kavalam in Alappuzha district. The police said that though Thomson was in the habit of marrying almost once in every three months, he had not been involved in theft or any other type of crime. “Not just that. He used to give his women and their families all he could – like money, home and land,” said a police official.

As his targets were invariably women from poor families, the relatives never had much of a problem with this condition that his relatives should not know of the marriage “and Thomson had never broken his promise”, said the official. He would take those relatives who showed too much eagerness to Ollur, where his two-storey modern house with two cars parked in front would convince them.

His first marriage since he developed the strange behaviour was with a woman from Changanassery. Thomson has a child in that marriage. In 2009, he married women from Pothenkode in Thiruvananthapuram district, Manarkkad in Kottayam district and a government employee at a temple near Guruvayur.

Thomson had bought some land and a house at Pala, Kottayam some one-and-a-half years ago and had married a school teacher from there. After he lost his job in the Gulf six months ago, he arrived in Kerala to marry a woman from Chingavanam, Kottayam and another from Perumbavoor, Ernakulam. He had also married women belonging to Idukki and Wayanad district.

Thomson claimed to the police that there had never been any complaint of cheating or robbery against him nor had anyone raised any complaint about his behaviour at any point of time. The police said they were checking the details of his marriages and behaviour.

Officials informed that he used to take money from others for interest rates and spend for his luxurios life .

It is said that Thomson used to work in a bank earlier, but he had resigned from the job and turned his attention to real estate business, in which he suffered a huge loss. Later, he migrated to the Gulf and had worked there till six months ago.
