Maids who pay a local sponsor?
I am currently looking for a full time, but live OUT maid. In the process I have come across the situation where some maids are apparently paying a local sponsor an annual fee to retain their visa here - and then they claim they can work for another family. I understand why they may want to remain with the local sponsor and not take on the sponsorship of an expat - many (expat) families leaving and a high turnover then their opportunity to work here is lost without having a transfer of sponsorship. Is this legal? ie. Would one need a letter of no objection from their local sponsor - how does this work? I thought one could only employ those that are on your own sponsorship or through an agency? Can anyone advise me where I can find the correct information on the government website regarding this issue?
This people who use to buy a visa as they called it Free Visa - is illegal in Qatar. Be aware that if authorities will caught you you will pay QAR20,000/- and deport and QAR60,000/- for the sponsor penalty. SO be AWARE and be carefull lots of folish people are hanging around to give TIP to the authorities.
I know of 2 Filipinos , one a cleaner in an office and one, a maid ,who were brought in by a so called Aunt, who is married or with a Qatari sponsor and they have brought her in. There are other maids from the same source as well.they have to pay them Qr5000 riyals a year to be sponsored in Qatar by them and go and find own work.
She
They have NOC to say they can work for someone else and they go and find 4 or 5 families to get enough money to pay the Qr5000 fee
This does happen a lot here in Doha.
How legal it is I don't know, but it is happening.
This is first hand knowledge
Thanks for the replies. Yes, I did think it was not legal. Yes, I will approach the agencies.
Anyone who works for someone other than his/her sponsor is illegal in Qatar!
It’s not legal...but there are many women who claim so... did she show you a copy of her Valid RP or passport? most cases they are run away maids and claim that they are doing it with the permission of their sponsor. But some sponsors do allow by taking some money annually... still it’s illegal.
If you are looking for a live out maid....hire through agencies who provide part time maids for hourly/weekly rate.
Vanessa where did you get your info from?
Your message is confusing.
Try the governmnet website. If they don't know, who the heck should know?
