Maharaja's Rolls - world's most expensive car
This should be returned to the UK as a gift, not sold on the market ................................
A bespoke, one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce built in 1934 for the Maharaja of Rajkot in India is set to become the world's most expensive car.
Part of famed Rolls-Royce collector Hans-Gunther Zach's private collection, the luxury car built for the Maharaja and named the 'Star of India' is expected to fetch up to £8.5 million pounds at auction.
One of the Star's unique features is extra headlights that track the steering wheel and therefore follow the road This technology was a forerunner of today's 'adaptive-curve lights' found on modern saloon cars such as BMWs and Mercedes.
A newer version of the famous British Icon... Reliant Robin..

brit,i'm sure we can work out a deal...you guys can give us the kohinoor back & can have the rolls in return...(btw,the 'gift' status of the kohinoor is highly disputed,i.e everyone except the Brits agree it wasn't really given as a gift rather taken as one *wink*!)
Pretty wheels that there RR!
And you dear Indians, quit whining! Didn't your TATA buy out Jaguar a year or so ago? There ya go, a great old Brit "marque" is now effectively an Indian car ;)
Sadly, or happily, RR is now in BMW's hands, Bentley belongs to VW, Aston Martin is owned by investors from the UAE, seems like only Chapman's Lotus is left...oh and the wooden Morgan.
What I'd like to see however is a gold-plated Reliant Robin. There's something you don't see everyday :)

"Ali Baba and 40 thieves" are now "Ali Baba and 30 thieves" ; 10 were laid off.
I can imagine the drivers of these vehicles....having a nice time with the vehicles when the rajha is on vacation .....also the rajha is not going to drive the car himself.
Previously owned by the Maharaja and Maharani of Baroda, India. This one off concours superb example is a work of art that can be enjoyably driven. This car was built by Rolls Royce and bodied by Aurthur Mulliner in 1927 and is a very historically important vehicle. Custom original features included 24 carat gold plated interior fittings and sterling silver exterior door handles. The rear compartment is fitted with a central swivel throne chair with two fold-away seats, a cocktail cabinet, sliding curved glass division, ornate burl walnut with inlaid brass and Royal Purple English silk to the original pattern and color, adorned with gold, and Connally leather to the front. Mechanically excellent w/almost little wear from new on this 7,668 cc six-cylinder engine and four-speed transmission.

Many of the really "extreme" Rolls royces were made for Indian Royalty..
For example , one of the most ornate examples was in Polished aluminium with red leather interior made for His Highness The Raja of Hathoura.
Bad Idea....no spare parts available....he he he ...
So these Rolls-guys used to sell such stupidly "custom made" cars to fleece rich guys in the 1930's also?...nice business they are in....no wonder they dont make any for the "volks"...folks....or people... :P
Rizks if you push it it will move....lol
Wouldn't be surprised though. That is their passion, collecting luxurious vintage cars. :)
Reminds me:
I once saw a Rolls Royce belonging to king Faisal of Saudi Arabia parked outside in the forecourt of a garage in bright sunlight gathering dust..
Shocked the hell out of me :(
Rumour has it that one of the Sheik in Qatar has bought it and will be on display at an Al Thani Museum near Doha..

LOL !
They used the old ploy of driving in backwards to confuse the "enemy"
So vintage.. I bet those who love to collect cars are dying to have this.
I see it still runs on four wheel and a combustible petrol engine. So what difference will it makes

There are rumors that MD sold the car to Maharaja of Rajkot in 1934!
And he bought some Panzers and a Polish touristic map! :P
.
Go wash your mouth out!
This is a Rolls Royce you're talking about. Hand built craftsmanship from the finest engineers from Blighty..
Wow...that is some price ....as the saying goes "Old is Gold"...
