i was wondering where to eat good quality italian food in the city outside the hotels.then i came across this new opening restaurant and i gave it a try.....((its amazing)) the food quality is very high and its like you are eating in Rome, i met the italian owner who runs the place and was very helpful,, and interduced me to the 3 italian chiefs who work there. the ampience is very nice and the decorATION is beautiful with a lot of pics from italy and italian songs.i recommand it and you judge yourself.its located behind royal plaza in alsadd street , next to london beauty saloon.

Ciao rest. in Haya Complex, and tel.468 9100, not been there, but must say I'm not really interested in italian restaurants abroad(proud of my italian cooking at home)unless well known (there are in fact good ones in 5 stars hotels, Teatro at the Four Seasons...)in Doha you find good arab/lebanese or asian restaurants everywhere, good food , good service, right price

ciao is in Salwa Road ... just before Qatar Decoration Roundabout (if you come from Ramada Hotel direction).

As far as I know, Ciao Restaurant is most popular italian restaurant in Doha. It is the only one I read in the italians tourist guides for Doha.

If you could pls give me the exact restaurant address so during my next trip to Doha (october) I may visit it and then give my humble advise.

I agree anciullo....I went when it first opened and the pizza was wonderful. However, I didn't try anything else.

My last encounter was dreadful. The marinara was awful, especially for what your paying. I think they added all the old scraps they had floating around!

The king prawns were smothered in a cocktail sauce so you couldn't even taste the prawns....mushroom risotto tasted processed and over seasoned...the salads are nothing to write home about....they charge a fortune for the seafood pizza and once again add only the scraps.

Besides the food being poor, the waiting staff have no idea what they are doing. They stand around your table or a meter away and stare at your table the whole evening...at least 2 of them at all times. My friend asked if they wanted to join in on our conversation, and they STILL didn't get the hint. Won't be going back there again.

Shall I say the truth? I didnt like at all!!Sorry for all of you enthusiastic about the place.I went with three friends, I was the only Italian. My seafood spaghetti al cartoccio was awful, the pasta overcooked , and no comment on the “cartocccio“ preparation; the risotto was with porcini chopped so not to show they used the dry type; desserts quite below standard, only acceptable was the pizza.I discretely complained with the chef, specially about the spaghetti like noodles, and he apologized many times saying the locals like pasta this way (then why running a restaurant named “Italian”); even the décor not convincing for me, I just report the split air conditioning, insufficient for the space, was liking all the time right beside our table. Although all apologies we paid all, including 2 coffees at 12 QR each. I would say that a dinner with one course, portion of dessert and water (coffee for 2 only) at 120 QR each is too much, with this low quality. Well, this was my experience, hope to find a better Italian restaurant in Doha.

Hi,

I agree with you about the chance to meet people from everywhere here in Doha, the opportunity to have have an italian group as I suggested was maybe just to help new joiners for their start up.

Now I am back to Italy.

I came to Doha last week just for a few days.My intention was to see how it looks like to live there.

I rented a car and trayed to see as much as possible, unfortunately couldn't meet anyone and this gave me the impression that Doha is a city without a soul. Anyway soon I will come back again because I wont give up the opportunity of a good job untill I am sure is not worth it.

By the way, I looked for Ciao Restaurant along Salwa Rd but could not find it(taxi drivers dont know it)I will be for my next visit to Doha.

Ciao a presto.

As for Ciao restaurant I think you can get through internet, if you find problem let me know and try to help you, welcome next to Doha, sono italiano anche io, ciao

why dont we create an Italian group here?

It could be helpfull for new joiners. On this side british expats are well ahead of us, much more organized...

Could anyone tell me the address of Ciao Restaurant (not the way to go there but the postal address)

Grazie mille

Lo Spaghetto is definitely a restaurant worth going to. In the last three weeks I have been there three times...Each time trying a different dish and bringing along new friends. All have raved about the place and have returned on their own with other people. The selection is great, the ambiance is wonderful, the food is delicious, the staff is attentive and friendly and the prices are right. No wine is the only downside, but everything else makes up for it!

I have been to that restaurant last week but...except for the owner, who was really nice, it wasn't such a gr8 place.

I've had a pizza there and got disappointed a bit. Was a bit too dry for me.

And btw, don't try to go there for lunch, because you won't find most of the items on the menu available...as silly as it sounds, I was told that they prepare them for dinner only.

Imagine when you go to the restaurant for lunch and they tell you that they only have pizza and lasagne available...

About Biella, it's ok...but I prefer the one in the Mall.

Pizza Express-only for salads!

About Ciao- been there, too. Not so bad, but food is a bit too heavy for me.

If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.

Diana, real Tiramisu' requires Marsala, which has alcohol in it, so I doubt they can make it with Marsala. However a good tiramisu' can still be made with a non-alcoholic substitute.

Of course I'll go to this new italian place, and then come and report to you (am I the only italian in QL?)if the food is to the standard. Shame they dont serve wine. The Biella in my opinion is quite below standard, I dont think anything there is italian, even the spelling name Biella is not correct (should be Bella instead).

Oops I just saw you didn't like Biella! But he wild mushroom soup and kalamari is perfect! I love it, although the pizza is really not good.

I think I saw this restaurant last time when we wnet to royal plaza. If it is really this good I think I will give it a try. I also love Biella that is such a lovely place and the staff is the kindest there!

Biella's has gone down hill. The pizza is worse then Pizza Express. I think it's the fatty cheese they use, plastic olives, and the base; which is very average.

They can never get the fresh pasta right, it's always lumpy and sticks together.

Yes like everything here in Doha.

Biella used to be pretty good, although not strictly 'italian'; and as long as you stayed away from the Panna Cotta, you were fine. I'm not sure what happened? I think they changed chef. The staff are nice, but at the end of the day, one goes to eat good food right?

Oh, this is exciting....I'm going to go there tonight. Is a shame that they don't serve wine...Italian food is not the same without a nice glass of Shiraz...mmmm wine!!

Good to know you guys like it. I have yet to give it a try, I only just got back; but it's nice to know that already some people have given it good reviews.

Italian food (in my opinion at least) is always best prepared by an Italian chef....at least in a restaurant that is. :) Italians by nature a very picky about their food; and hence you will find that the mozzarella will be fresh, the italian parmesan will be freshly grated (not the stuff you find made in germany or holland), and basil will be the type from Genova (not arabic basil, there is a huge difference).

One thing I do know, their pasta is fresh and hand made, not dried pasta (unless specified), as is their bread. Try buying their ricotta and spinach tortellini to cook at home (apparantly they are very good).

From what I've understood, they've only just opened....so maybe they'll appreciate some constructive advice.

the parmesan and mozzarella are imported from italy so u feel it tates light and not greasy as they bake the pasta fresh daily in the restaurant ,,it really tastes fresh and healthy,,,, its really the best italian food i have eaten in doha,,,, more than that the desserts are sooo delicious especially creme caramel and teramiso.

So they use REAL Parmesan, fresh basil, good quality mozzarella, juicy kalamata olives, and fresh tomato sauce??...Oh plz say yes, as I haven't found a decent Italian restaurant in Doha yet...including the hotels!!

i went there with some friends about a couple of weeks ago. and i thought that the menu didn't have many options. i think they need to make more dishes available. and maybe the could make the dishes a bit more bigger. most of my friends had to order appetizers with their food. because dishes were such in small portions.

other than that the food is good. and the pastas and breads are fresh
