The "disinformation" contunues..Initially the reports were that he was killed by Gaddafi forces. then that he was killed by his own people for being a double agent. Now, it seems that the "spin doctors" have had time to rework the story ;O)

The assassination on Thursday of Gen Younes, who earlier this year defected from the Tripoli government to join the opposition fight to overthrow the regime of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, came as a damaging blow to the rebels' military efforts.

After 24 hours of confusion, rebel minister Ali Tarhouni has declared that Gen Younes was killed by members of the Obaida Ibn Jarrah Brigade, a militia allied to the rebels and named after one of the companions of the Prophet Mohammad, suggesting that Islamist elements were involved.

I don't think you are being cynical - I do think this is way that most people think. However - this time (for the first time) this was not about oil IMHO.

Seems to me when Gadaffi was willing to be a good boy all the powers that be were willing to jump into bed with him. Ofcourse that had nothing to do with the dowry his country had to offer by way of trade, oil etc etc. But once the first opportunity arose to oust him he turned into everybodies least favourite dictator inlaw.Am I just being cynical.

Actually we can't really believe anyone anymore as far as politics and conflicts go. Nothing is sacred...and lying and covering up facts is practiced by many,as in the case mentioned in the OP. Killing someone and then blaming it on the dreaded "Islamists" seem to be in style now too and sadly will ensure many criminals will escape unadmonished!

As soon as the west has finished dabbling in someone elses affairs (again) and Gaddaffi is overthrown, the rebels will immediately turn on each other, the west will then support the faction that controls the oil, everyones happy again apart from the groups that are put down that is, but they don't matter as long as the oil keeps flowing westward!
