1- In general how much should i wait for the visa?
2- as for the accomodation, can anyone tell me about the villas, because i was told that since i am married i will be given a villa in Doha?
3- the salry that i will take is around 4000US$, is it a GOOD salary?

Lucky you, go for it for sure. I hope you like your job!

I am desperate like hell. Unemployed since Nov 06. I started to hate living in Qatar. I don't give a shit about work anymore. F*** every employer who made me turn that way.

thank you qatar

>i was told that such delay is because of the forum and now you said the festival.

and next month it will be something else, there are always massive issues,

DO NOT RESIGN FROM YOUR JOB - it is not guaranteed unless you get your visa, the first hurdle has been jumped but there are far more to get through yet. that of the visa committy and the police statement that you have commited no crime and are suspected of none, stamped copies from your local Qatari Embasy of your educational documents etc.

and without having the phone number of the person in HR that is dealing with your visa it is very difficult to sind out where in the process you are at. or indeed once you get your visa it is in your name and get your sex right.

Shah sab...

What do u at AJE..the point regarding the salary was great..i liked it..because i will really need such a push..as for the Visa its two months now..and still waiting..

Serendipity you know last month i was told that such delay is because of the forum and now you said the festival.. i wish so..because waiting a visa is maybe the worst thing on earth especially when your boss always ask you when are you leaving!!

Abouhashem, have you seen the thread for the Al Jazeera documentary festival?

I think last month they must have been busy processing visas for the Al Jazeera media conference, and now this month they have probably been busy processing visas for the people attending this, between 23rd-26th.

http://www1.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/975C3501-0A01-4C71-8301-DFBC5079D46D.htm

I was just thinking, maybe they will have more time soon to process visas?

Once you get over here, you are eligibal to apply for advance salary.

You will get at least half of your salary in advance.

Mabrook first of all and welcome to Al Jazeera

I work for AlJazeera Network

4000$ is almost 14500QR is not a bad salary, infact this is a good start.

IF they told you that you are getting a villa then you are lucky, what you can do is ask for the allowance amount you will be getting incase you dont live in villa provided by AJI, then you can always select any villa or flat between your allowances, (you might be able to save more from allowance amount) this is what most employees do.

Visa does take time, 1 to 1.5 months at least. Be relaxed.

Well Abouhashem,

Don't worry about the headaches, they wont last!

I cannot make any premature assessments on your situation, but I am simply trying to give you the worst possible scenario. Though your processing lag time will probably never be as bad as what my friend had to endure, being patient should definitely be on your list of personal attributes!

That is a great position and I think that upon arrival, you should try to re-negotiate your salary requirements.

My guess is, if it wasn't mentioned in your contract, then its unlikely that you will receive an advanced salary payment. Don't take my word for it though. There are a bunch of AJI junkies floating around this board somewhere, I am a little surprised at their lack of contribution! :D

You should definitely clarify these things with HR. I believe a Lebanese guy heads their HR Department, (his name is Jaad I believe) and he has been very helpful in answering my inquiries in the past. (if you don't have his number, Msg me in private )

Best Regards,

Mohammed

Hey Congrats on your contract!

1. As for Visa reqs, it varies considerably, though I have heard from 'trusted' sources that Lebanese nationals shouldnt have too much of a problem getting work permits. But as for turn-around time.. well.. AJI isnt known for its beaurocratic efficiency (refer to previous posts on this) so it could be a long long wait (a Lebanese audio visual engineer I knew had to wait almost a year post signing his contract before actually starting his position, which put a huge dent in his wallet! lol)

2. I wouldnt know, though I've heard that they are pretty spacious. (3 bedrooms I beleive)

3. $4000 (14,600 QR) is not bad CONSIDERING that accomodation is included. Given the excessivce rate of inflation these past two years, count yourself lucky you are getting provided housing (no less a Villa) as alot of companies here have begun revising (i.e. SLASHING) their accomodation policies.

Of course, depending on your position, you could negotiate for a higher pay scale, which I would recommend you do. I know that senior Editing positions at AJI can fetch anywhere between a $7,000 - $12,000 compensation package.

What position were you offered if you dont mind me asking?

In any case, Good luck with everything!
