Leaving for Good
Dear all,
There was a topic came up in Gulf times recently. there is a common saying among the people who leave Qatar at the end of their service "Leaving for Good". Now one person came up with an argument that in fact people are coming here for better living conditions and earnings. in that sense one should say "Leaving from Good" at the end of their sevice.
please post your arguments and comments in the subject

Thank you arecel for the comment worth indeed
To me - as the entirely biased former editor of it - it looks as if the staff just don't give a toss any more.
Lol Paul, I was definitely cringing as I read the letter!
Maybe the staff got a kick out of it?
For GT to publish a long, boring, utterly misconceived and meaningless letter just to fill space is jsut soooooo cringe-makingly pathetic, IMHO. The staff there know perfectly well what "for good" means in that context.
the phrase "leaving for good" means that the person who does the leaving doesn't intend to return. anyway, following this strain of thought (leaving from good),good here is subjective. true, almost all expats here receive higher compensation but some of them have deplorable working conditions. in the end, what matters more is you are treated humanely. money may attract the expats to come to Doha but it is the way they are treated that make them stay longer.

mo lang!
Come on guys..people do leave for better paying jobs out of Qatar.Hence people do leave for good or better..
Its time people start peeking out of the well.
Enough Said!
Yes, but there was also a letter in response to that, pointing out that the author of the original letter doesn't understand the meaning of "leaving for good".
In this case, "good" doesn't refer to good vs bad.
The expression simply means leaving forever.
So the original letter was meaningless.
