Karwa taxis

My wife had a problem with a bangladeshi karwa driver harrasing her. She gave him a piece of her mind, got out when he slowed down(yes slowed, not stopped) for a roundabout which caused him to stop blocking traffic. He tried to pull alongside her to demand his fare and she made enough of a scene (and knowing my wife she probably gave me a censored version) that an arabic man got out of the car behind the taxi and then the taxi took off. The arabic man was also kind enough to give her the short remaining ride to our house.

Hey noone told him to actually carve his number with a name like "The Wolf", what was his expecting?? lol. Oh and then we decided to be super mean and later that day called from a different number and pretended to be a blonde American named Becky (such a blonde name! lol), and told him to meet us at the Ritz that night...hmmm...wonder if he's still waiting lol.

Oh JassKat that reminded me of another story. We were at City Center having coffee at Starbucks and noticed there was a phone number carved into the table! So what the heck we called and pretended to be a small village girl from India and put on the accent and telling him how if my father found out he would kick his ass, etc and he had his name also carved and it was "The Wolf" (how seductive eh LOL), so we were like vhere is ur hunter.....aaaawwwwwwooooooo! hahaha. Silly med students.

talk to me on the way from the DFW airport to a hotel...flight got cancelled...Hispanic guy, and the other passengers were also conversing with him. I am practicing my spanish..little as it is....he drops the other passengers off..I continue talking about Mexico..etc..basic topics..

We get to hotel, he is nice enough to bring my luggage in..and tells me cuidado with my voice....not knowing what cuidado meant, looked puzzled...he blushes, points at a sign for caution ..and grins...never been told be be cautious with my voice before...lol Guess abayas won't cover that part up tho...

Oh I'm not surprised they ran away, I was scared of myself! I was hungry, tired, sleep, exhausted AND had an exam the next day, so they REALLY wouldn't have wanted to mess with me, I was ready to kill, and hey if I was thrown in jail I wouldn't have had an exam. So they did the smart thing ;) lol

once this guy from SA threw his phone number at me. I got it and gave it to my husband so we could teach him a lesson. He has this funny voice changing program on his computer, so he gave the number a call using this really creepy voice speaking to him in Arabic. THe guy got really freaked out, and my husband kept calling him at random times for a week trying to scare him.

My husband was also able to find out some personal info about him through his phone number, and was saying personal stuff to this guy. OH, he got so scared and was crying at one point. We were trying so hard not to laugh!!!

This guy changed the phone number, and hopefully learned his lesson :P

honestly??? The ones, like the guy in SA..I keep, for if I ever go back there and hopefully he's still around working. The others, go into file 13....The hollered out phone numbers...which is WHY they like the numbers that are easy to remember and pay more for those..(I ASKED Qtel...lol)I post as my phone number on here..(just kidding) I can never remember numbers anyway..and end up laughing..got to love the creativity of men sometimes...

I remember once I was going back home at about 11 pm and I was dead tired, stopped at a red light, and there was a yellow Lamborgini right next to me with 2 Qatari guys who rolled down their window, had high music on and were just staring and smiling at me. So I turn to them, and give the deadliest look ever and went like are u serious, they rolled up their windows and sped like hell LOL.

I've gotten people waving, others just staring even though they're going in the opposite direction!! They weren't even looking at the road! It sometimes really makes me laugh at how sad those people are.

them..and i'm sober! In South Africa, one guy kept laughing at me trying to figure out the exchange rate because they liked getting American money...and I finally just kept calling on him because we got to be friends and I felt safe with him. He would never take me somewhere unsafe, always watched me get into the building, etc..He'd hand back the extra money with the comment..ohh no laydeee...too much...then I'd tip him well..

There was this cab driver who was telling me that once he gave a ride to a totally drunk guy and the guy was so drunk that instead of giving him 20$ for the trip and 5$ tip he gave the cab driver 200$ and 10$ tip. Now that cab driver always waits for passenger outside bars.

Where the F*** are their managers ?? I'm sure the "big heads" know about this and are quiet. Arghhh...

they can be the most interesting conversationalists!! I've made friend swith some when on vacation and they'd give me their number to call when I needed to go ANYWHERE..so I did because I enjoyed their company and they were dependable and on time...(something that is sorely missing with Karwa)

Karwa doesn't have to provide women drivers, cah...just men who respect women..

and as far as not talking to the taxi drivers...I've talked to taxi drivers my whole life and never have I had one act like the ones here. I refuse to act arrogant...that's not who I am..but I do expect respect from others...regardless of what they are doing. Not wearing perfume??? excuse me but do YOU have to never wear cologne??? What does that had to do with anything???

Can't anything ever go right in this country ?! Before Karwa there were barely any taxis around and transportation was hell, and when Karwa came along everyone was so happy and look at things now. Problem is the company's getting the lowest paid people they can get, which means the drivers won't know how to drive, they don't know the directions and are deprived perverts who haven't learned how to live in such a society where respect is compulsory and sexual abuse isn't tolerated. Way to go Karwa!

For the women my advise would be not to talk much with the driver, just tell them where you wanna go and for directions right, left and straight would be appropriate. And never talk on the cellphone in the cab. Dress modestly, wear an Abaya, no perfume, And behave arrogantly. Some jerks would even try to touch the hands of a female passenger when they are giving the fare.

Qatar is peace country,we should keep with our attitude

of the taxi, name and work number, report him, tell him to pull over, let me out, call and report him to his boss. I won't take cr*p like that. Frog, you know as well as I do that some races get more abuse than others. Some feel helpless in situations like this because they feel nothing would be done. How do you suggest they defend themselves against this when the driver clearly doesn't respect them in the first place? That wouldn't stop it...only going higher authority would. And sometimes even the business won't listen to these other women..so hence the police and/or media.

Why don't they report it...could be the same reason women don't report rapes or attempted rapes?? The fear or feeling of helplessness that all that will come of it will be that they are told it was THEIR fault somehow...and they get in trouble??? They can't afford to lose their jobs.

I think no state could assign a policeman for every woman wondering around. Women should start learning how to defend themselves against such things. I believe, if a woman react immediately and firmly, that driver would never dare go forward with his insulting harassement. I'm urging people to be active rather than submit to any abuse. I wonder what would be your reaction if you were in such a situation ?

Most of the time drivers that are so filthy to abuse verbally their passengers would be so coward to do anything more serious. On the other hand , I think most of women would not report such an abuse, and I expect your answer to my question : Why they would not report ?

verbal abuse is the first warning signs of much worse things to happen to women...its documented..

There is no reason a female should be subjected to verbal abuse each time she steps into a taxi. She is paying to ride to a location, NOT paying to listen to sexual Cr*p. Yes, women are strong, but what are we to do..ask to be let out wherever we are??side of the road..that's even MORE dangerous. What you are suggesting is that we submit ourselves to this abuse and just take it...sorry..not going to happen. It has to be reported so that the issue will be taken care of. Back home if that happened, the taxi driver would be warned at the very least if not fired immediately. Its not tolerated. And... Frog...it IS SERIOUS...words are a precursor to worse things to come if not stopped.

As far as Char's wife dropping a stone on someone's car..that was wrong..she could have been charged with destruction of personal property and gone to jail, and the guy that was causing problems would be out free. violence usually will beget violence.

I am talking of these vulnerable ladies who have trusted the Karwa drivers and put their life in jeopardy....and some get so shocked they start to fear if they would reach their destination in one peace

Did I say people shold start killing each others ? No way.... I said there should be some reaction .... the minimal rate of response. I don't think people should be that passive . A society could not rely on police to solve all its daily problems. What if every woman keeps on reporting all the things that is happening to he during the day ( haraassement/ silly starring/ bad words/ ...etc) Policemen will not have enough papers :D

Walah it's stressful.... Where are we living now ? a country of fear and frustration? Everybody is reporting everybody else. People are not able to act themselves? I mean sone slight problems need no police interference. I think the choice of writing on Media is much better. I still prefer individual reaction. Women can be very very tough sometimes. well... I just hate the word "report". Since I've been here in Qatar I heard it millions of times.

If someone is staring at u ---> Report him

If someone is overpassing your car -----> report him

If someone is torturing snails -----> report him/her

If someone is not telling you good morning -----> report him/her

What the hell is this country ? a huge Police station ? Society never improve such a way. There should be other ways for solving problems. Women are not that weak ???? are they ? a woman is able to make such a driver regret his words or acts. I believe this is a real social problem , that need of reporting everyone for everything ? The last time I thought: What if a woman or a man reported me telling lies and making me go to jail for something I've never done ???? What if I take a plate Number of any car on the road and tell the nearest Police station that the guy was talking on his mobile while driving/ using horn/ using a non parking area/ waving insulting gestures.

I had experience that too. The taxi driver said he is from Bangladesh or something. Anyway, he aked me if I am Filipina and I said yes. Then, he told me that he likes me (I remember he said it many times), and that he wants me to be his girlfriend! Lols!!
