Descendant of arguably the world's first mainstream compact 4x4, the latest Jeep Cherokee continues its tradition of compact dimensions, real off-road ability and boxy design, the last bit thankfully brought back after a disastrous flirtation with rounded styling in its previous iteration. The current version debuted in 2008, and updates for 2010 are limited to minor changes in trim materials.
The Cherokee looks great in a utilitarian sort of way, like a less gawdy version of a Hummer or a G-Wagen. And with the chrome grille, mirror-finish exterior trim, metallic roof rails, 18-inch alloys and body-coloured fender flares, it looks upscale too, even though it competes in the "affordable" segment. It is technically a compact 4x4, but appears to be a fair bit taller than our own midsize Grand Cherokee.
I drive a jeep cherokee (although an older model - 2006) and it is the perfect car for me here. it has enough acceleration and visibility to be good at round-abouts. the only problem is that I don't find the service centre very helpful. They take forever to get booked in for a service and you can be without your car for a week or so (just for an average service). I avoid the jeep place as much as possible, but buy spare parts there and take it to another mechanic when i need to (and yes the spare parts seem expensive to me). So ... great car, but a shame about the jeep service centre.
If you are going for a pre owned machine, test drive to make sure its perfect, or probably, dont go for it.
if you are talkin abt a new one and planning to have it for a looong time.. then sure.. it is the MAN's Machine. it wont get u more if u r plannin to sell it across later.
Spare parts for cherokee in Doha?? dont know how genuine if u r takin it from a mech. if its from UCA, Almana it would be genuine, however, it would take time to arrive.
Also before you buy, make sure the make aint korean.
You're going to need a good mechanic for an old model cherokee, it's hard to find, but I found one. I know of two shops that sells replacement parts for cherokee, original from al manna is very, very expensive. On the bright side the body of an old cherokee is made of steel, you always have the advange on collisions, like the car who's going to hit you will have his bumper and hood ruined while it will only have a minor dent on the rear bumper. Another plus is that you'll never get stuck on the sand dunes, and it have very good acceleration.
