Is it not allowed?

Now i really have to share this coz this just happened a few minutes ago... One of my officemate just came back to office with his wife and they are newly weds. We were saying our congratulations while he is introducing his wife to each and everyone. And i was smiling and welcoming his wife. Out of courtesy, i extended my hand to him to congratulate him (well he kissed the guys as they greeted him...a custom i got used to already)...and guess what? He didn't take it! i was kinda shocked! He only smiled and made a courtesy vow... I didn't get it. Just because his wife is there, means he is not allowed to be in contact with any girls?

Even my other workmate who is a guy was shocked that he didn't take my hand. And to save me from the embarassment, he came over to shake my hand and we laughed over it. I didn't have any bad feelings about it but just confused why he didn't take it.

Now my other workmate is teasing me because he knew that my newly married colleague used to court me before he got married. Geez...

C'est la vie...

Most men have dual behavior, sometimes they don't even greet u if they r with their wife or GF... why can't they just be themselves? is it hard to accept for their wife who they really are? or they don't want the wife to know who they r?

welll, to stay in the safe side do not shake hands with Muslims from the opposite side.. be it a qatari or not.. Because it's not allowed in Islam even though some Muslims do it anyway..

I'm sorry you are being teased about it, but it's okay just laugh with them! I would totally do that..

I for one, don't shake hands and feel sorry for the hands I leave in the air.. But they seem to understand lol I hope so!

we are good friends and we've been working together for 3 years now. when my other guy workmates go on vacation and come back, sometimes they greet me with a peck on the cheek too even if they were married. and there is no malice with it becoz i know it's a friendly welcome or greeting. and it's no different with this guy before. just now that he came back with his wife did he do that. the handshake is to mean them well becoz i'm really happy that he got married. i understand that he maybe he just doesn't want to upset his wife in some way.

Dont be upset... thats quite the norm.. we have guys tht laugh and joke and go out with us for lunch on a daily basis but meet them outside the office with their wives and they act as if they dont even know who you are...

Some guys genuinely dont shake a ladies hand - but you generally get to know that from the moment you meet them.

SUch is life as they say !!!

its not matter of religion or trudition coz religion is religion with wife or without, but some husband try to play role of angel or 100% loyal infront of his wife .

in Islam it is not allowed for a man to touch a lady, even over the handshake. Nothing is shocking about it. You live here, you should know about it.

the opposite sex when they are not mahram (closely related by blood that prevents marriage). This seems to be more common among Arab Muslims. It could seem a bit hypocritical if he used to be making overtures to you before but maybe he was concerned about his wife's response. The best thing for a non-Muslim Western woman to do is follow the cues and smile warmly, waiting to see if the man extends his hand.

Don't let it bother you.
