A prominent scholar of Urdu, Professor Dr Syed Taqi Abedi will be the keynote guest speaker at third annual Iqbal Seminar (in Urdu) being organized by Iqbal Academy Middle East (IAME) on Saturday 28th November 2015 at L’etoile Hotel, Doha at 7.00pm. Iqbal Academy Middle East (IAME) was founded by Qatar-based writer, researcher, and literary critic Faisal Hanif in 2013 to promote and disseminate the work of Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938), a Persian and Urdu poet, a philosopher, and a visionary from the subcontinent. Iqbal is considered one of the most important literary figures in Urdu literature--arguably the greatest after nineteenth century classical Urdu and Persian poet Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib. Though Iqbal is best known as an eminent poet, he is also a highly acclaimed "Muslim philosophical thinker of modern times". In much of South Asia and Urdu speaking world, Iqbal is regarded as the “Poet of the East”. While he is a national poet of Pakistan, in India he is remembered as the author of the popular song “Saare jahaN se acha Hindustan hamara / Better than the entire world, is our India”
