INTERNATIONAL EARTH DAY

Until a man duplicates a blade of grass, Nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge. Remedies from chemicals will never stand in favorable comparison with the products of Nature, the living cell of a plant, the final result of the rays of the sun, the mother of all life.
-- Thomas Alva Edison

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet, and the winds long to play with your hair.
-- Kahlil Gibran

The wealth of the nation is its air, water, soil, forests, minerals, rivers, lakes, oceans, scenic beauty, wildlife habitats and biodiversity… That’s the whole economy. That’s where all the jobs come from. These biological systems are the sustaining wealth of the world.

TODAY IS WORLD EARTH DAY, LET'S DO OUR PART TO SAVE MOTHER EARTH FOR FUTURE GENERATION!

My Friend wrote this and sharing it on his behalf :

***************************************************

April 22nd is considered as Earth Day, the only day where all the rapacious consumers turn ecologically friendly. The aggressiveness of corporations on this day turn mild and sweet by celebrating Earth Day by turning off their lights for a few hours (self-glorification in all news outlets and websites). This self-congratulatory behaviour of being friendly to earth is nothing more than self-deception. Living within the realms of ecological limit is a way of life.

Following up on the climate events, just a quick snapshot:

a.The temperature has increased to 0.8 degree Celsius (0.74 previously) [Source: World Bank]

b.The Current CO2 emission is around 395 ppm (+2.67 ppm of 2012 value) [Source: NOAA]

c.Melt in 2012 was far more frequent and extensive along the northern west coast, the far north, and the south-east and south-west coastal areas of Greenland, as well as the almost unprecedented areas at high elevation. [Source: National Snow & Ice Data Centre]

d.Desertification has caused greater economic damage (an invisible damage) like, French grain harvest down by 12 per cent (2011), Wildfires burning 3 million acres / preliminary impact of USD 6 to 8 billion (2011), include Sahel and Horn of Africa Crisis [Source: Various].

e.There were 900 events, 16 billion losses, 9500 fatalities [Source: MunichRe]

f.90 million barrels per day of oil consumed, 0.6 million barrels per day increased compared to last year [Source: BP]

g.3577 tonnes of cement is used in 2012, compared to 1832 tonnes in 2002 [Source: International Cement Review]

h.Total world coal production reached a record level of 7,678Mt in 2011, increasing by 6.6% over 2010. [World Coal Association]

i.Apple Hardware Sales In FY 2012: 125.04M iPhones [Source: Techcrunch] ~ This shows the direct consumption of precious mineral like Coltan

Short message: Consume less means not only applies water or paper, but throughout the finite resources [direct and indirect].

Happy Earth Day all 365 days. :)

Thanks.

Mohammad Sayeed. Showkath. (RA @ QEERI)

Blistering, if the water table is high, why then do they use sea water and chemically treat it to make it usable?

nomerci ... lots of trees can be grown here... Lemon, Mango, Guava even Coconut Tree... these are fruit giving trees... there are many other that provide shade too...

The water table in Qatar is high... so its not that bad as it looks...

the leaves of 2 million trees can capture at least 2 million liter of water each morning... in the humid season...

If they really do plant 22 million trees... and it survives then it will change the whole look of Qatar...

Qatar will look very beautiful...

In my opinion earth day is such an important event because it's a day for humanity to think on what we can do for mother earth and how we can help to keep our environment healthy.

But again Everyday should be a “Earth Day" so we should find ways to keep our planet healthy all the time (:

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL EARTH DAY!

Went to Ezdan mall the other day and was happy to see Ezdan's green initiative of planting 22 Million trees in Qatar by 2022..:) If 1 M plants grow into trees it will still make a difference.

Growing trees is amazing stuff... one not only gives LIFE but the ecosystem it develops around it... the ants, the bees, the bird nest... it is kind of like a multiplier effect...

There is this guy who grew a whole forest in a dry land... Awesome indeed!
