What an inspiring and loving family. The little girls English is amazing.
The only sad thing I could point out is that Oprahs outfit could probably feed that whole street of people for a year!
Yeah and whilst you are there...do visit the hillsides, forests, and beaches. They don't call it the pearl in the Indian ocean for nothin. Despite all the turmoils and poverty, Sri Lanka still remains a beautiful country, and many of it's citizens are incredibly hospitable and happy, despite having very little themselves. Oh but most will always complain about the government. That's just a Lankan thing...always blame the ruling party!
Fathimah, yes, I might just do that.
You get a lot of people like I described, often living in the most tiniest of homes made of the most inferior of materials, generally besides canals and railway lines. Or even in very notorious locals.Yet when you meet them they always act like they are far better off than others, and will often be helping their neighbours claiming them to be the one's in need. My husband befriended one such family and I was once invited to their place for lunch, where I met many families like the host. and I was touched beyond words. Their generosity and kindness was amazing as was their ambitions for their kids. They were determind that their future generations will get much better despite the hardships the parents face.
Likewise was this former family of beggars who lived near my home. Today most of the kids have grown to be quite successful people despite their humble beginnings, and they still remain very level headed and grateful.
Fathimah, got to tell you the truth...I have yet to meet such people!
Mind you, I have met many poor people.
They truly are exceptional. Reminds us yet again of all those blessings we take for granted:wealth enough to suffice our daily needs, health and a loving family...we are truly rich, though we perceive it not. Yet look at some of those who posses far less in terms of worldly goods, and yet they hardly find the time or need to whine. Instead they are out there, working hard to feed their families and indeed help others in need.
Some of the most generous and inspiring people even I've met are people who may own very little of value, yet are willing to give the shirts off their back to anyone seeking their help, whilst asking of no one themselves!
Tinku - uffff I am sensitive but cannot tolerate drama :)

The link does not show any family .. AM I missing something
No I don't think I looked. Can you post the link here?
They dont really need Oprah's outfit money to feed them , they have a lil more than that as foreign reserve ,about 400 billion dollars.
But those who should do it are real A/holes, thieves !!!!
And too think I was worried about moving into a smaller 2 bedroom apartment with my family. LOL! Really puts things into perspective.
MM - Btw,did you see the story of the Girl without A Face I recommended you on the other tgread? If you found this one touching, you would find the other one even more touching and inspiring.
The little girls :)
Who Oprah, or the little girl? I find the whole family inspiring. The father, mother, little girls. Honestly brought me to tears.
MM - Without sounding too prejudiced...I think she is great.
