A leading bank in Qatar tells me that credit card cancellation request can only be honoured if the cancellation is done at least 45 days prior to the renewal date. Otherwise annual fee for the entire year will be applicable even if I officially close my credit card account.

I was in States during my college days in early 90s and even at that time any bank would cancel the card and charge the annual fee on prorata basis only.

This bank in Qatar insists on charging the amount for the entire year, despite canceling the card prior to the renewal date.

Not sure how to respond to them.
