India Needs Vigilante Justice

Given the current state of affairs - India needs people like me to start Vigilante Justice!

When someone goes outside the law to mete out a punishment for a crime, this is termed vigilante justice. The people involved in vigilante justice are not qualified members of the judicial community, and they may break the law in the course of pursuing “justice.” People engage in this activity for a wide variety of reasons, ranging from perceived inactivity on the part of law enforcement to personal experiences, and many nations have very strict laws about vigilante justice.

It is important to distinguish between vigilante justice and organized civilian crime fighting organizations. A Neighborhood Watch Association, for example, is not engaging in vigilante justice, because the members are merely keeping an eye out for crime and reporting it to the appropriate authorities. By contrast, an angry mob which harasses someone suspected of molesting children is engaging in vigilante justice, because it is making assumptions about the perpetrator of a crime, and going outside the legal system.

I always feel that the revolution in Egypt must inspire a similar revolution in India.

I second Fathima, VJ would never become a social solution except in defensive situations.

World will see a holocaust in the Parliaments and National Assemblies if we apply VJ.

Blood will flow in every street in the name of VJ.

Procrastination in justifying few hundreds is acceptable than risking the life of millions.

Instead, we have to improve the justice system by upgrading it with latest technologies.

67 years we have been searching for the right way which the people who are supposed to be showing (we elect them for same based on their promises and hopes) must have done but guess they knowingly didnt do it and would never do it. A common man is in trouble and stress in one form or the other 24x7 without an iota of the feeling of being secure, that he wouldnt be looted by the people behind the tables etc etc. How far do we want to tolerate this nonsense. Time to make these people believe that they can be beaten up, can even be killed and their monies taken away just like that at the hands of same common man whom they failed to provide security against all this, they were supposed to.

When people start taking things into their own hands for whatever reason....who will draw the line? This will lead to a future in which each one of us takes upon himself /herself the duty to hand out justice to those who wrong us! There wont be any value for Law and order in the country..

I don’t think it’s the right way...maybe I am just being paranoid...but the very thought is scary indeed. Yes its high time our Justice system should be more efficient and corruption free.

Let sometime pass, the food which was meant for the poor would get converted to currency and go and sit in the swiss accounts of the same people and their cronies. But a handful of poor people or their cronies dressed as poor will be shown live on TV channels, 24x7, how good their lives have become after this scheme in the run up to elections.

Of course India has a huge problem with corruption, it is like a national charateristic these days but that is due to 100s of millions of uneducated poor peolpe who don't know any different voting for these idiots. The latest scam is to give away free food, an expensive bribe to win votes. Disgusting.

contd...

The nexus between judiciary, legislature and executive will never let anything be right there. Time for common man to take justice in hands, pull this bas**ds from their bedrooms and beat the crap out of them. Its time to say enough is enough.

Look at what is happening in Burma. Some Buddist accuse a few muslims of rape and murder and then decide to take action themselves by burning their houses down and attack random muslims. This is not justice.

I agree with OP. While India celebrated 67th Independence day this year the law and order has completely broken down under the inept governance by the Congress, for the major part, where none is a Gandhi, who have just stolen that tag. The magnitude of loot by the people who are supposed to make laws to the contrary is beyond comprehension. The justice system... a rape case which shook the entire nation, was supposed to be fast tracked, takes 8 months to conclude, otherwise the sentence would have been pronounced after the guilty are dead.

And can have cons that can not only outnumber any benefits, but cause worse calamity than the supposed perpetrators did. When lay individuals assume the role of prosecutor and executioner, you are going to be dealing with each of their biases, discriminations, misconceptions, mis judgements etc, which can truly be disastrous and increases the chances of unjust penalties been issued even against innocents. What any society does need is a sound and just legal system, and rather than taking the laws into their own hands, people should work towards achieving such a state by using all their prowess and capabilities in a legal method, that will bring about positive changes and just outcomes.

In the Indian context with third world police and justice system,it's not wrong for individuals to assume the role of judge and jury.

Vigilante Justice is fine in theory but in practice means individuals acting as judge and jury. This is wrong.
