Just a thought that might give you some encouragement. In 1990, I decided on a whim to take a job in LIBYA. My family and friends thought i lost my marble and to the last minute...tried to stop me but being me..that even pushed me more. In fact, I had cold feet along the way but because everybody was against, I went anyway. It was the time of the EMBARGO, then the flights were stopped in 1991. I stayed for 7 years and it was some of the best time...the country has beautiful mediterranean coast, untouched, historical ruins that could rival Rome and Sahara dessert, endless dunes. The thing is, people are very liberal, less than Qatar. Clothes, religious practices, Man/Woman could be friends and in group...more free than being under the eyes of my 4 brothers and Uncles. Friendship are so easy to come by, since there is not much restaurant, people create own parites and get together and like open for all kind of stuff. Cost of living was so cheap, people can afford. If course, outside of Libya, people think we are in prison sort of.

Seems you're going at the right time..

Angola has the fastest growth rate of 20% in the region and the inflation is steady at 12%..

The oil boom is transforming the country and the Chinese are their main customers.. The country is definitely moving forward..

First elections in 16 years in Angola. Let see if it sticks. Best of luck. I think most every country has a 'golden ghetto' (especially those with black gold) so with a little chicken scratch you will be G2G.

There is excrement on the streets and in the water. The countryside is FULL of unexploded landmines. Disease is rife ! Food, when available is very expensive and the electriocity supply erratic. The Government is corrupt and the people are savages due to poverty. You could end up as the main course for sunday lunch! Dont go there - its awful!

Hi Honey

Angola is a hive of activity for the oil business at the moment, I have a colleague who works on a rig offshore, he says the country is frontier stuff, some good parts some he would not recommend travelling in. Take care.. stay in the patrolled areas of Luanda if you're in capital, or insist on a secure compound where ever you stay.
