I want to change my passport!
If i could, maybe i could claim the "generous benefits" that i would be unable to claim being a TAX payer in the UK for many years!
IN THE Prime Minister’s breathless list of the coalition’s achievements to date, delivered during his speech at the Conservative party conference, he included the promised cap on immigration.
As it turns out this is a praiseworthy but fairly meaningless commitment. The immigration minister Damian Green’s conclusion that the entire system is “out of control” is nearer the mark.
For it appears that in a desperate effort to clear the backlog of asylum cases the Home Office is rubber-stamping thousands of applications (about 2,000 a week) with only the most cursory of checks. If you are described as “mass murderer” or “Al Qaeda activist” in your documents then you might just get a questionnaire asking for additional information.
Otherwise, you’ll almost certainly get a thumbs up, plus permanent residency and the promise of generous benefits.
Home Secretary Theresa May is said to be shocked by the mess that Labour left behind. Shocked yes, but surely not surprised: Britain’s insane immigration policy has been a national disgrace for many years. Yet what’s worse is that her hands are tied by the threat of a slew of legal actions from asylum seekers who are refused entry and can claim that a precedent was set by the thousands of other cases which were approved.
The change in government caused many to hope that the immigration catastrophe would be sorted out but thousands keep pouring into Britain. A back door amnesty indeed.
better if UK send first all the criminal/wanted people to their homeland back, rest of the issues will be sorted out on table.

Glad im not in England at the moment, was telling someone the other day about the income tax, value added tax, poll tax, national insurance tax, extra tax on cigs, beer and petrol, school and university fees, road tax, tax on savings, inheritance tax etc etc etc.... They were amazed I ended up with anything left to live on!
I don't think it helps when TV programs like UK Border Force are aired. They made it clear on the show that once you make it to the UK, if you don't have your passport they can't deport you back as they need proof of your citizenship. They release them eventually and once again these people go AWOL.
people should be made accountable for getting the UK into the mess its in today, something is going to give somewhere and im afraid it will all end in tears!
I know a few people who landed in London, tore up their passports, applied for asylum and are now proud British citizens.. Lol, the system is ridiculous...
but we cannot immigrate here to Qatar and we do not come and abuse their social welfare system. We are talking about IMMIGRATION and ASYLUM being out of control and bleeding hearts who keep painting a rosy picture about what a Benetton world we live in are a big part of the problem.
London is not the cess pit for extremism. The extremists are found in the Midlands and North West.
The system is there to help the needy. The problem is that it is too easily open to abuse. This is due to lax controls, lack of ethics on the part of the claimants and more importantly lack of direction from the government - be it Labour or Conservative.
Assylum system is a joke. Anyone can walk in, claim that his/her life is in danger and be granted assylum. This has to stop.
LIS, I agree with you that it would be a good idea never to go back. Like Wole Soyinke said, not only is the living standards falling, but London has become the cess pit for extremism. Safer outside than inside.
Unlike Canada or Australia, I think the UK have opened its borders in the past few years to the far extreme immigrants. As I've written in a previous thread this is causing instability in our region. Specially with the recent sectarian tension in both Kuwait & Bahrain which was sparked by Shiite clerics residing in the UK.
During my many travels to Europe , I've witness how Arab immigrants abuse the welfare system. I've seen many who owns grocery shops & shesha cafes and yet receives social support
We are just one big global village now. And I am proof of that... here I am half way around the world from where I was born.
My husband and I visited the UK this summer and were shocked by the number of immigrants. It's really fantastic.
The question is, while it may be super-complex, isn't it as simple as the UK parliament passing a law (or a constitutional amendment) saying, "no more immigration for the next 5 years"? Sure there'll be the lawsuits and human rights people crying foul, but if there is genuine public support behind the initiative it will be successful. At worst you'll need a referendum if it violates any constitutional matters.
Immigrant friends in the UK tell me that while everybody complains about the matter and there are scandals now and then, the english public (and therefore government) is not really serious about stopping immigration, since immigrants are a means of cheap labour so english families & businesses can now afford to employ relatively cheaper nannies, drivers, cooks, waiters, cleaners, etc. If they were serious about stopping immigration, they would have.
We did notice that all bus drivers were south asians and all waiters were Polish.
What say you?
Quite a few work cash in hand too, yet they are still entitled to use the NHS, etc... Not impressed when I've been paying my taxes for so bloomin' long...ok, maybe not so much now ;-)
place now, i am getting more comfortable with the fact that i may never return.
And I don't see how we will ever recover from it because we opened the floodgates too long ago and now have no plan to stop it. Even our legal system works against the taxpayers. The problem as I see it is that we have too many that w have already let in who advocate for everyone from their village or family back home. Couple that with the bleeding hearts and the PC courts, and the result is that we have no logistical plan to put a stop to it.
The whole fiasco makes me sick to the stomach!!!
where I am not expected to work my arse off to support all the asylum and immigration seekers who are getting government handouts. What ever happened to the hardworking immigrant? Now they seem to be immigrating because they know we are suckers and will put them on the dole.
I looked up the UK border agency online "points" calculator and I even filled it out for a laugh. The thing is I said that I had a Phd and still did not accumulate enough points! Now I wonder how many of the 2,000 can even speak English, never mind hold any qualifications that would be deemed worthy of entry?
Teresa May is shocked, yet it is the current government that is now allowing people to stay..
There is more to this than meets the eye :O(
