So the conversation went a little like this...

Me- Good afternoon could you tell me if Mosaic will be showing the English Premiership this season?

Qtel - Which country?

Me - The English Premiership

Qtel - Yes we will.

Me - Excellent, can we subscribe?

Qtel - Im not sure

Me - Ok Can you tell me which channels or package I have to subscribe too then.

Qtel - No

Me - Any prices or start date?

Qtel - No but it should be soon?

Me - Within the next 2 weeks, thats when it starts?

Qtel - I dont know.

Me - Ok ...er right

Qtel - Anything else I can help you with...

Me - You havent helped me with this enquiry yet?

Qtel - What do you want to know?

Me - Forget it. Goodbye

I dont want to hijack this thread so this point is rhetorical and doesnt need a response. I work in the private sector here and I see Millions of Dollars being spent annually on consultancy support from outside of Qatar - completely understand that if the expertise doesnt exist then you buy it in - no problem. My question is why oh why havent the government run authorities who, as Kbaisi modestly admits, are not at the races when it comes to the whole organisation of their operations, not taking a leaf out of the private sectors book and getting the expertise in to reorganise, well, lets be honest ORGANISE these significant providers of a service to the public - albeit the expatriate public - actually, maybe Ive just answered my own question!!

Most of the government ran organizations take poor service to a level that is just inconceivable out of this region, I think extremely poor service must be a part of their mandate. And yes, Qatarization is one of the main contributors to the overall poor services in that sector!

Poor service!!! Check out KahraMaa building on D Ring Road - it looks like a Stalinist Mausoleum from the outside and once inside you enter a whole new world of ineptitude. Word to the wise - if you need to go there FOR ANYTHING - be prepared to write of a day of your entire life!!

Getting it right - how difficult can it be??

kbaisi I'm not saying Qatarisation is the sole problem, I'm only referring to Q-Tel (not ANY other company) which is a Govt owned company and delivers exceptionally poor service, in fact they excell in poor delivery...

The Qataris who are part of the hiring process are usually not Qataris who went through the Qatarization process, Qatarization is a relatively new initiative. If the service at the local foreign banks, private english schools, couriers etc, were any better then you would have more of a point.

Stealth are you that naive, or subserivant to Qatar that you think Qatarisation has no part to play. Sure its not the entire problem but Qatar own the company, it is run by Qatari's, they hire the staff, they train the staff....so how do you figure it has nothing to do with poor customer service...open your eyes man!!!!

Trying buying a beer here now, you have to show ten types of ID confirm your blood group and mothers madien name while the security guard fondles your testicles....

On my first trip to Doha, I took $2500 USD cash, and $12,000 in USD travelers checks. With no bank account you would have sworn I was carrying kryptonite! 3 QNB branches denied me, then after HSBC denied me the security guard said call American express. They said they could not cash them, but could issue me mire if I wanted...Seriously... Are the customer service reps retarded? Finally a nice man told me to go to a specific money exchange, they were wonderful, and now of course with an account I don't need to bring money in...Doha takes patience... Lots and lots of patience:)))))

Qatarisation hass nothing to do with the pathetic customer service.

with IBQ on Thursday evening when calling customer service (my ATM card wasn't working anywhere - except POS transactions)

X - Do you have a problem with your ATM service at other bank branches?

IBQ - No mam, your card will work anywhere

X - Well its not working at any other ATMs - (rattle of list of ATMs I have been trying for the past 1 hour - 4 in total between Salwa Road, Ramada and Muntaza)

IBQ - Is your card active mam?

X - Yes its active - its been active for the last 3 years - and this afternoon I bought lunch via POS)

She disappears for about 3min...

IBQ - Yes mam you card is active...

X - Huh... I told you that.... What was the use of checking?

IBQ - well it should work anywhere Mam...

X - yes I know it SHOULD work anywhere, but its not.... (by this time I am getting a little irrate

IBQ - Well why don't you go draw money from an IBQ ATM?

X - Because there isn't one in the area i am currently trying to stay in so I can do what I need to do.... You mean to tell me I cannot use my card at any other ATM?

IBQ - Yes mam you can - it works everywhere...

X - oh for goodeness sake... just forget it... Thanks.

On Sunday, I go into the bank - Give my card to the Customers Service lady - She says the cards are not working at other ATMS due to upgrades on ATMs around Doha - apparently the ATMs don't like the shape of the IBQ card - Can she order me a new card?

X - Huh? You mean to tell me, that these cards are not working anymore, and you don't inform anyone? I wasted my time with IBQ customer services on the phone and they didn't tell me?

So now I await my new card (the old ones only expire in 2011 - but they are no longer working at any ATMs except IBQs)

Frustating when you want to draw cash!!!

Qatarization can't take the sole blame for this, the majority of people responsible for services locally are expatriates.

I don't know what is more frustrating, the calls you make to (insert company name) that never get answered, or when they do answer the phone and have no idea what they are meant to be doing...
