If you are allowed to take a different exam instead of the IELTS, then I heard the TOEFL is a lot easier, but it's long and boring.

@stillthinkingofausername (way too long of a username), he stated he did poorly never stated he got a 7.5, the other guy said you bribe someone to give you a 7.5.

Also wasn't Mortal Kombat been doing the whole hard C to K before it was Kool.

You need to spend money on learning European English:

With the implementation of the Eurodollar underway in Europe these last few years, the European Union is trying to find new ways to standardize practices in Europe.

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the EU rather than German which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five year phase-in plan that would be known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of the "k".

This should klear up konfusion and keyboards kan have 1 less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20% shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be ekspekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkorage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of the silent "e"s in the language is disgraseful, and they should go away.

By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and similar changes vud of kors be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi to understand ech ozer. Ze drem vil finali kum tru! And zen world!

Those two help a lot, heck I learned english because of cartoons, TV Shows, and video games when I was a kid. Heck my cousin same thing happened to him, he knows English as good as me and he lived in Jordan all his life time and in an arabic school, so do something you like with english and try to understand, don't shy away from using a dictionary or looking up a sentence why it was written like that.

To the music part choose actual music that has words, No Lady Gaga or pop singers that use less then 10 words. No Heavy Metal with screaming your trying to understand I myself don't even understand what they are saying. Finally rap most of it is ok but anything don't listen to rappers that rap fast your trying to understand, and I wouldn't recommend rap just because most of them eat letters, example the word Marvel is pronounced Mahvel. The best thing you can do is watch UK shows, like Doctor Who.

For grammer I believe Novels would work the best, cause if you run into something then you can look it up. If you have to watch a movie go with English Subs on Purpose so you can read and listen at the same time or read something you couldn't hear properly.

P.S. Sorry for the wall of text. Try your hardest and believe in yourself.

Hey, take a re-look at how you've written the post here. Is it up to mark grammatically? I can see a few errors, possibly similar to the ones your examiners saw.

Be mindful of the language whenever you use it, and you'll soon be a master of it.

Good luck with the re-sitting...

No need to be disheartened. Perhaps your grammar class tutor was not up to the mark.

Keep persevering. i'm sure you'll do well :O)

what daniel sais it's true... it's the easiest and cheapest way to learn english. Talk and (most importantly) think in english. Don't feel sad about grammar. 70% of the native english speakers have a problem with it.

Hi,

Don't feel sad and try to focus on what is required from you during the IELTS exam.

First of all, you should understand that thinking in your own language and translating into English before you talk (or write) is not a good solution, will get you nowhere.

Try to think in English, watch movies without subtitles, try to understand song lyrics, try to read a English newspaper.

Try to engage in online communities where everybody speaks English.

When you'll get that skill move to the next level: grammar.

Hope it helps :)
