Now let me see I really am so proud of being Lebanese, I would love to see this infecting all QL peeps, state your nationality and say your proud. I am sure we are all proud of being of our own nationalities.
Alumnar, I think you already know some about me now, I do stand for my opinions and beliefs. I dont mind any of the BSers I would really rather have stand by my own rather having a friend who would not respect my views that does not mean he/she should hail them too, and as I still can see myself am so damn proud of my nationality and believe it or not if I was born other than a Lebanese I would have claimed it and not by genes but simply by loving it.
And I would like to greet you over here and say happy Aniversary, and please give my best regards to your hubby and for the little angel.
Blood - it didn't take a bad turn. Your ideas and beliefs are yours, others think different or not - that is up to them! You can never please everybody, but always stand up for what you believe in. Trust me when I say I have been there and rather have people turning their back to me because they don't know how to deal with people who say what they think / feel, rather then me agreeing with their bulls*** attitudes and moral values. Always be strong and stand up for what you believe in :)
way just lightening things up Alumnar, nothing more.
this thread took a very severe curve, I did not want that to happen, I might even create a thread stating that we should not be proud pf our nationalities and humanity, which usually pushes us to do good deeds (I meant humanity)!!
Bad things caused by humans who are non-humans who are actually aliens.... Blood, are you ok mate? Please tell me you don't actually believe aliens are responsible for bad things happening in the world?
flanostu... I'm a good citizen, I'm not corrupt or something and I don't attacked people on the internet on a personal level because I know it's stupid. By not doing s*** and stuff is enough to make my roots proud and that's vice versa...
I am too proud too, just humans whom am talking about are the real ones, not everyone who can talk and debate is actually a human, you have to have human heart to be a human, wars poverty etc.... all of this are being created by non humans who looks like humans, I may say these are the aliens whom there was a thread about them recently. I got no problems with no one if he/she does not agree with me on a topic, on the contrary I might even admit a wrong way of thinking if convinced.
Blood, I am not arguing, only stating my opinion. I do not believe in "self praise" unless, of course, one has accomplishes something truly extraordinary. I have not done that, so far, to my knowledge.
Enthusiasm, most certainly! But I do not see where pride gets into that.
I dont want to get into an argument with anyone, I just wanted to share an opinion with others, and wanted to read others opinions. No praise is better than thyself praise, and I meant to say with that sometimes humans need some enthusiasm in their lives.
Blood, your point is perfectly clear to me. I never thought you were degrading other nationalities and nobody accused you of doing that. I'm not even proud of being a human being as there is so much war, conflict and other bad things caused exactly BY human beings. Sorry but I'm not just gonna agree with you because you are my friend. But I'm proud to say you ARE my friend in real life (away from the computer) :)
I just created a new topic for expat... He'll be throwing his carrots at me soon! ;)
(sorry for little hijack)
Back to the topic: it makes sense to me to be proud of your ancestors and that they lived and achieved so much in an era where technology was practically inexistent.
Blood...I am "UNSECURED"...well, explain what that means, and I'll answer you.
Now, my roots, as in my parents, heritage.
My family has been in my country since the 1100's. They have accomplished quite a bit. Am I happy to be of that lineage? Sure, they did a good job. Although, that gives me the responsibility not to fall short of that heritage.
Am I proud of my nationality? No, why would I? As I said before, I have not done anything to achieve that nationality. And as I also said, I am, indeed, happy to be of my nationality.
know what it seems that my point is not valid for so many people, thus am gonna let go for now, when I said am proud of my country, I did not mean to degrade any other's.
I am still proud of being a Lebanese and above all a human, and I think that matters a lot (being a human).
Buddy if a person doesn't know his mom or dad and have a hard time telling what is his nationality because of it... Well, can't be really proud of that...
No Blood, I am not proud of my country. As long as a country has corruption, racism, poverty, discrimination between rich and poor, there is nothing to be proud about - and EVERY country has at least ONE of the above mentioned negative aspects. I have American friends whose patriotism makes me sick - because it is so over the top! But each their own and I respect that.
I'm proud of my husband, who is honest, hardworking, a wonderful father and husband. I'm proud of my daughter who is a gorgeous child full of life and confidence. I'm proud of being a good mother, wife, a true friend to those who are true friends to me. For me, to be proud of something, it has to be related to an achievement towards which I contributed.
"A proud man is always looking down on things and people and of course, as long as you're looking down, you can't see something that's above you." C.S. Lewis
cool down, and your totally right you could be whatever you are, still you would be proud of having certain ancestors, and to tell you the truth it does not matter should you have a father or not for sure, but when you have a father whom might put your head in the mud, you'd rather not to mention him among your friends although each one's acts speaks for themselves. For the cool down it is just a discussion whether you like or not does not mean you have to be mean.
You can be someone who does NOT know his father and mother YET proud of your acts and praised by others.
You can also be someone who has their family tree all figured out since 1700's yet be a clueless dumb as* who talks non sense and thinks he is proud...
I am not trying to lecture you, but knowing your ancestors has NOTHING to do with pride.
For you Ex that you know your roots, that is more than enough to make you proud of them, some of us dont even know who their father would be.
About being arrogant, I am not I was just asking people to praise themselves I clearly asked in my post to state your nationality and if your proud of it, in case your not it is up to you, I did not say in any case that you should like us, it is up to you, in case you do not like me, I will not ask you to, I would not mind a dime.
Rye I love my country and I am proud holding the nationality of it, that does not mean I have to disturb people with my beliefs whether it is religion my race or even my nationality, I am happy with what I am, and as I have stated recently that I am more (happy) Proud knowing and having multi nationals of friends.
ex.expat how about legal pad's declaration that he is proud of what's in his zipper pants.. Does that show insecurity and inferiority complex too?? ;o)
Being unsecured!! Maybe, but not left a mark on history read some books, being proud of our roots is something non of you guys would understand although I know so many Europeans and Americans are being proud of their origins, epecially when they know which root they have bloosmed from, unlike your comment roots are really important, since it talks about our fathers and mothers. I dont know how much this imply to you guys.
Ex, ya, I guess. At least that is what it looks like so far.
I mean seriously, I do not understand how one can be proud of something one has not done....sure, one can be proud of those countrymen/women who actually HAVE accomplished something special. But be proud of oneself without having taken place in said accomplishment? Naaa, all wrong IMHO.
At least that is what I have noticed here on qatarliving. I know the Americans at times have had songs about such things to get their patriotism up, but for the most part they don't have to run around telling everyone how proud they are. Nor do we Brits. I think it comes from insecurity.
I'm sorry this is really silly.. to be proud that y are from a country.. Of course you love your roots.. but dont bother others with that...
We are above all World citizens.. who need to live together in peace, learn, give and take with all people.....when we succeed that.. then you have the right to say I AM PROUD
@Khawaga, being from anywhere in the world is a good thing itself, knowing people from everywhere, is not unique for no one, it just made me more proud that I have people I can call FRIENDS from around the world. I know we all can measure that word better than anyone else, whom is still in the shell under the seventh layer of the deepest sea.
proud of being Lebanese, but to make it more clear I am more proud that I have been able to make friendship relations with so many other nationalities, like Indian fellows, Pinoys, English, Americans, Russians, and Arabs for sure I meant all other nationalities I already have met, I really am so freakaleaking proud that they are my friends, sweet, nice, and so respectable people all around the world, as much as there are the ones you would never dare to say that they are my friends no matter which nationality they hold.
What to say!? you are somehow right, but not all your fingers are thumbs buddy. Being proud is for the drudge ones who give all they can to survive and get better, and for those I would really salute, otherwise the ones you mentioned are everywhere just they are more obvious at our country, so just drop them from your account and be proud of being a drudge one. I am still proud though. ;)
Proud? No, why? I happen to be born in a certain country, nothing I have accomplished. I am proud of the things I have accomplished, but those have nothing to do with where I happen to be born.
I am, for sure, VERY glad I am born where I am, as it makes my life a lot easier compared to other nationalities.
This is something i wanted to ask for a long period of time.
I understand you like your country. I actually like it too. But to be proud, you gotta have a logical reason. I am half Lebanese myself. But honestly, I am not proud at all. Don't get me wrong I like Lebanon a lot but i am actually disappointed in how my people fight and kill one another based on religion, How the Government plays people left and right and how there are no laws for the rich in this place. You just can not be proud of something for no reason and I hear Lebanese people more than any other nationality saying this "I am proud" thingy.
Lebanese people here in Qatar are not very true with themselves I find. They like to pretend they have so much money even when they are in debt. They still are well educated and sophisticated compared to the rest of Arabic nationals. Living abroad made me meet great Lebanese people who are extremely professional in what they do.
I am proud of what i achieved in my life and will be proud when my future kids and family does good in life as well, but i just can not be proud to have been BORN a certain nationality whether Leb, African, American, etc...
So please, Quit saying this phrase to make the rest of us proud of you, sell your BMW and pay your loan and start talking either Arabic, French , or English without mixing 3 languages in one sentence and of course Shop less for Levis 501 (many nicer cuts out there)
my dear smart budd I knew that someone like you would pop up and ask me this question, but no worries I think so many on QL know who am I and they all know that I am a Lebanese, so either you be proud of who you really are and state it or take a hike, LOL.

cupid, if you looked up your family tree i'm sure you'd see your relatives still living up there.
why can't orphans or adopted kids be proud?

My mum used to replace the butter with rendered bacon fat when I was a lad. As good as a heart attack! :D
You Ms. Alumnar, I do admit on that too, still wont you be proud saying your original nationality when someone asks you that.
And stop calling me TAIL!!!!!
such a stupid thread, got into so many clever peoples mind my friend.
I'm proud of my husband, who is honest, hardworking, a wonderful father and husband. I'm proud of my daughter who is a gorgeous child full of life and confidence. You still missing the point buddy!
You can be someone who does NOT know his father and mother YET proud of your acts and praised by others.

It's a simple question with a simple answer. It's either your proud or not. Relax, people here sometimes think too much.
;) The Warden just offered me carrots :(
I like that comment, LoL.
For you Ex that you know your roots, that is more than enough to make you proud of them, some of us dont even know who their father would be.

someone is really ashamed here for being oneself
"Proud to be Pinoy/Paki/Lebo/Ind/Egy" threads on Qatarliving as long as there are so many people that can't face feeling insignificant :)
By the way, where is he anyway?
One thing to love where you are from and another thing to get on people's tits with your unnecessary pride. (your people are KILLING each other!!!!)
I'd be more proud if I was a Jew because they mostly act as a one UNIT and help one another.
No go to the mirror and slap yourself and say, i will never make a clown outta myself again. ;p
by roots. I still think it's insecurity that makes people go on forums and talk about being proud to be a certain nationality.
Good luck with that, mate ;)
Thanks god for Kellyheroes!
my mum always taught me not to brag ;)
ex.expat how about legal pad's declaration that he is proud of what's in his zipper pants.. Does that show insecurity and inferiority complex too?? ;o)

That is a great comment, hat off dear.
@Khawaga, being from anywhere in the world is a good thing itself, knowing people from everywhere, is not unique for no one, it just made me more proud that I have people I can call FRIENDS from around the world. I know we all can measure that word better than anyone else, whom is still in the shell under the seventh layer of the deepest sea.
i am proud for being a humble person...
Having friends from other countries really is not unique to being Lebanese.
proud of being Lebanese, but to make it more clear I am more proud that I have been able to make friendship relations with so many other nationalities, like Indian fellows, Pinoys, English, Americans, Russians, and Arabs for sure I meant all other nationalities I already have met, I really am so freakaleaking proud that they are my friends, sweet, nice, and so respectable people all around the world, as much as there are the ones you would never dare to say that they are my friends no matter which nationality they hold.

I am proud that I am from the 3rd house in the 3rd street of sector 33 in Chandigarh, India.. Anyone else from there??
I am proud that I am NOT a Lebanese. On the other hand, what do I have to do with it. My mother dropped me here on earth. Could have been Mars, too.
Thanks Blood! :p
This is something i wanted to ask for a long period of time.
I understand you like your country. I actually like it too. But to be proud, you gotta have a logical reason. I am half Lebanese myself. But honestly, I am not proud at all. Don't get me wrong I like Lebanon a lot but i am actually disappointed in how my people fight and kill one another based on religion, How the Government plays people left and right and how there are no laws for the rich in this place. i believe in the oneness of our country!! i love my country as whole not as a state alone....
gudone - Where is India?
There is Kerala, Tamil, Karnataka, Maharashtra.
Every one is asking in QL
Is there any Banglorian in Qatar?
Is there Maratha in Qatar?
Is there Malyalee in Qatar?
Instead they should ask
Is there any Indian from Banglore?
I will then feel proud.
i am proud for being half australian and pinoy. HAPI NOW BLOOD? :)
I like that, way to go gurl.
Proud to be Pinay!
Aim high Philippines!
We can surpass everything in due time! :))
(is that the kind of spirit you want Blood?) :p
I am proud, I am an Indian
my dear smart budd I knew that someone like you would pop up and ask me this question, but no worries I think so many on QL know who am I and they all know that I am a Lebanese, so either you be proud of who you really are and state it or take a hike, LOL.
My dear how you can proud to your nationality . In the nationality page you mention something els then what real you are. Eather your real country . :)
