Anyone bank at HSBC? I want to open an account at a bank and was wondering which to go to. Can you do international wire transfers by phone with HSBC? What is the best bank to be able to access your account in the states? Thanks!

So what about transferring funds to a bank account abroad? When I go abroad and need more money (and obviously don't want to use my card and get fees, etc.) can I transfer online or call them from abroad to do the transaction?

.

I am one of the satisfied clients with HSBC Qatar for about 30 years and still on their client list without any problems. I have used my debit and credit cards outside Qatar without any problem (but I'd say refrain from doing so unless you are in emergency - double converion, charges etc. will apply) Contrary to what you ppl say, I get my things done in no time without any issues. But I have a bad habit of giving everything in writing to the bank whenever there is a need. And I always deal with the relationship manager/s.

Dilly, I would suggest you do a search on banks here on QL... I think you will find that 90% of them are about HSBC's bad service.

I am with IBQ, have online banking and have never had any problems transferring money between my accounts here to my SA accounts.

Nor have I ever had any trouble with withdrawing money from an ATM in any country, including South Africa, India, Egypt and more recently Italy:-)

In the 5 years I have been with them, they have never once NOT answered any of my calls to their service centre:-)

Complaining to their UK office will not serve any purpose. Better escalate it locally to their higher and higher officials and in case of need you can address a copy to QCB (Qatar Central Bank) depending on the case. But what is your concern about deducting charges from the acct., refer to their tariff of charges. If they are charging as per the published tariff, your complaint shall not withstand - so pls exercise caution.

Hi Xpress- thank you for your help. Yes I have a name, already spoke with them, and they said they will get back to me, after apologising verbally ( which they read from a chart in front of them). They are just sitting on it, thinking I will let it pass. Actually I am now forwarding the complaint to their head office in the UK. Its to do with a lot of issues credit card, mis information, deducting charges from the acct, and when questioned- quietly transferring it back with no explaination etc etc

friend, let me assist you to some extend.. do you have HSBC's acknowledgement for submitting your complaint letter to them ? Who received it (do you have the name?) Which department it relates to ? (If the complaint is related to credit card, it may take more time as the related bank has to respond to them, normal min. is 45 days) If you have not received response to your written letter within a reasonable time, you can address it to higher authorities..[from my experience todate] you can definitely sort it out if addressed correctly.... need help ? i offer my assistance without any obligations.

HSBC are good if you are in branch speaking to one of their advisors, but if you want to reach them by phone then forget it. I made over 55 calls to them during March to discuss something, and left 13 answerphone messages. I was sad enough to keep a tally as i knew it would be a challenge speaking to someone! I received nothing back.

Good luck!

@ Xpress- I have given them a complaint letter , 3 to be precise, 16 years of frustration . I'm still waiting for a reply for over a month.

HSBC ...

Except for the charges

Except for the charges I find HSBC very friendly and efficient, better than many local banks. Now that most banks including HSBC have reduced some of their charges (eg. TT charges), they will make it up in the exchange rate - no doubt.

Their management treats complaints at a top severity; if you have a problem give the complaint in writing, you are sure to receive good response in no time. Atleast this is what I have experienced with HSBC over many years of banking with them..........................

Yes, HSBC is a decent bank as long as you have a handsome balance :)

Try some other banks those don't deduct minimum balance charges...

HSBC Qatar is a nightmare. My advice check out another bank, now many may debate that the other banks are just as bad, but in HSBC you pay them a monthly fee to treat you bad. I have a string of complaints to HSBC , to which I am yet to receive a reply... Of course they think I am not bothered and will forget abt the complaint, boy are they in for a shock. Their 24 hr help line needs help themselves. The latest mess up they send me a letter telling me that I had not paid my last installment on a loan, and that I should pay up immidiately , if this letter had reached my company I would be in serious trouble , as my company does not take these complaints lightly. Now heres the best part .... I dont have a loan with HSBC!!!

HSBC has evening banking upto 8pm (if not 9) and have plenty of parking particularly if you go for the evening banking.

.

But once you have the internet banking activated, why would you need to go to the bank ? Your salary is transferred to the bank, cash withdrawals from any ATM of any bank, cheque deposits on ATM, transfers and almost all other transactions done on internet banking rite ?

.

For service, HSBC is one of the best - for fees and charges, no comments.

Hi,

What documentation do you need to open an HSBC account. I already have an account in the UK, and arrive in Doha on Friday.

Do you know how long it takes to open an account in Qatar?

thanks

andy

HSBC is a decent bank. They can open you an account in the USA also, allowing you to electronically transfer money to and fro.
