that it really a tricky one ... depending in which encryption method they are using, I can say that it is really so hard.
There is the normal password WEP supplied by user and it is really the easiest but still hard.
There is the 64 or 128 encryption, you will supply a password and based on that it will automatically generate the key for you to use. You can reset those Routers [if they are reachable] through the reset button on the back ...
If they are not ... then hmmmm? If you can login without password, maybe you can play around ... set a password for it and let the poor owner wonder what went wrong ... in the worst cases ... he will shut it down and you will lose your connection source ... at least he will learn to secure his connection with a password next time .. you did a bad deed, to make him do a good one ... for him of course and not you :)
The defualt IP is normally for most routers:
192.168.0.1
or
192.168.1.1
or
192.168.2.1 [Belkin or US Robotics, can't remember exactly]

Installing any software can be controlled by the AD Group Policy ... the domain account that you are using won't let you do any of those ... Yahoo mail web client is blocked through Smart Filter I guess ... as all what he had to do is blocking the URL itself, adding it to the not-trusted websites or Block List and that is it ...
Did you try www.meebo.com? I guess that if he is smart enough, he will block all as it has all chat clients there ... this is the first website that i will normally block after blocking any torrent clients, torrents websites and other messengers

install any msger, some mnths b4 we were able to chat thru Yahoo mail
now even that is blocked

you can block those through the server itself, cant' be blocked by mails ... otherwise ... I can create a new account and use it. You can block it either using a proxy [such as ISA] or a software that will use ISA as a plugin [Smart Filter] ... some are still happy with the old school stuff and are using Surf Control ...
If you have a Juniper Router, you can create groups, add users to this group and then block those chat programs ... a CISCO firewall can do the job also.

He/She should have after that a look at the track function under their accounts and see when do they normally post. The lunch hour is not included of course, but would it make any difference? Guess not beside the other 3-5 hours of the office working hours time :)
