How are non-white professionals treated in Doha?
Could anyone please fill me in regarding how someone who is non-white (say, Indian/Pakistani/Sri Lankan) working in a professional position is treated in Doha? For example, there were a couple of recent posts about how Qatari Police were very helpful in changing tires/jump starting a car. Would a non-white person be treated the same way?
What are native Qataris attitudes towards non-whites in comparison to attitudes towards whites in professional positions. Judging from what I've read on this and other boards, it seems that the unskilled laborers, pretty much all of whom are non-white, have shockingly few rights and are treated in ways that would be considered illegal and immoral in Europe or the US. How prevalent is racial discrimination across the economic strata?
Would appreciate your observations.
in IIn my piont of view..non prof.or prof.there is always a racial descamanation.wherever you go...anywhere in the world..white ppl..always treated good.....and always better than black or brown...agree to me or not thats how the worlds works.

Be patient and ask the Creator to help you. If you became patient, the Creator shall grant you victory. The best ones are the ones who are more close to Allah.
"Developing" countries in the world respect white people. If you have light brown skin, you would be respected more than someone who have more browned skin.
That is everywhere. Why do humans dislike dark stuff?
Just have a look at Qatarsucks to find out how non-whites are treated. It's up to the individual to believe it or not!!

Hi Suzanna,
The issue on Fridays at Landmark, I don't think it is got to do with racism, Fridays are family day at Landmark and single man are not allowed in (except for Qatari single men). You can get around that by saying, your wife is inside shopping and you are going to meet her.
But other than that racism is more visible here than in North America.
Bye now.
somehow when you are in new place away frm your home you have to brace yourself for a treatment thats lesser than what you get at home. you will always be a second citizen in this country and some smowhow what i have seeen is europeons gets prefetrence here in doha , not by virtue of thie work capability but just by the passport they are holding. it wouldhave been nice if we are judged by our work rather than passports.
After spending 4 years here, I totaly agree with tg
Professionalism gets respect anywhere in the world. Attitude and negative behavior generally boomrangs back. Its a matter of trust and general observation that sets the pattern for future work environment. yes its true like any other country globally that unskilled labour get a rough deal, or should I say illegal agents and resource people from the mentioned countries in your post take undue advantage of some uneducated persons
I don,t think so.I believe discrimination can only be affected to a person who is not strong either mentally or phychologically he feels that he is inferior. Now for that matter u can be a victom of descrimination if you have these qualities even if you are professional.
My dear friend always remember when you show somebody that there is something wrong with you only then you are treated wrongly.
I have been to UK, USA , Dubai ,Behrain and KSA and never allowed anyone to misbehave for nationality reasons.
So have faith and forget about any premature fears.Remember if anyone does something wrong its his fault and you should not be affected by this.
No they are not treated equally to the people in this country and i am not only talking about the locals. There are some people here, from europe for example, who they are not treated well too. Nobody will say anything here if you show a racist behavior, so there are some fascists that seize the opportunity to express themselves freely. The whole racist phenomenon is not constrained to your nationality, there is also social racism. So if you have a "good" job they will treat you with respect. Not at the streets or the malls though. One day i and 3 other guys went to landmark. The one of them was indian and the security wanted him to leave from the mall. It was friday and they had a celebration or something like that so they didnt want indians around. I am sorry about that but please keep in mind that i am leaving here for 4 months only so i might have misunderstoond the whole situation.
I hope it will not turn into a bleeding column but You can't escape a couple of things in the middle east...Where you come from and what you drive...
Since you can't change where you come from (and You should be proud of it)....find the most expensive and bulbous brute of a 4 wheeler that your money can buy you (Used ones OK too...)
Again its not about nationalities..All blue collared workers (Asians or other Arabs..or where ever workers come from) are un-fairly treated..domestic workers have no life at all...
However those in white collar positions have no worries..(Other than a queue not respected at your car Service or likes of Mcdonalds..tolerable)...Take heart from the fact the way 10 types of treatments are meted to GCC citizens in their own countries based on the tribal lineage (Shias in Qatif, Saudi Arabia have a life worse than any Asian working in that country)
If you have a job at one of the Q companies, Oil & Gas etc, you will be ok.
Qataris are ok, you will always have a few (very few) who act stupid, but that is the same where ever (Country) you go.
I feel that Indian, Pakistani, SriLankan etc do not get treated very well here. I might be wrong, and I hope someone will give you a more detailed and personal opinion here, but that's just how I feel.
Shameful, I know.
