Tragedy struck at Dibba Fujairah when two housemaids died trying to save their Emirati employer’s two children in a swimming pool at a hotel in the eastern town. But luck was not absent as the little boy and his younger sister were saved in the last minute by a European tourist who happened to be there.

The tragic incident took place on Monday, when an Emirati family from the eastern oasis town of Al Ain went for a short holiday in Dibba and left the three-year-old boy and his sister, 2, with the two maids at the swimming pool.

As both children went into the water and screamed for help, their Asian housemaid jumped after them although she apparently does not know how to swim. Her African colleague jumped after her when she saw her body floating on the water.

Both maids died while the two kids, Salmeen and Wadeema, were still struggling to survive inside the pool. A European tourist who happened to be passing near the pool jumped in and rescued both children.

According to the Arabic language daily Alkhaleej, the two children received treatment in a local hospital before they were taken to Twam in Al Ain in a serious condition. Doctors said they were still struggling to save their life, adding the girl’s condition is now stable.

Their uncle Saeed Al Amri blamed the hotel for the incident in the absence of any rescuers at the pool. Alkhaleej said the hotel manager was arrested while director general has been summoned for investigation.

“My brother was in his hotel room when he heard screams....he went down and saw the bodies of the two maids floating in the water…he found his son was in a very bad condition while his daughter was still crying and shaking,” Amri said.

He said the European man who rescued the two children also tried to resuscitate them before the hotel management called the ambulance.

For all anyone knows the parents stepped out to go to the bathroom, or to get food for everyone. It doesn't say what the parents were up to.

In my opinion the hotel should have had lifeguards.

nevertheless

Why in the world parents were away while the kids were in the pool area with the nannies (only the nannies??)

Why the Hotel did not provide a security person in the area?

And last but not least how come the pool area was "empty" or at least that is what is the message; since the European Tourist happened to pass by just by "luck".

Once again, I feel sorry for this but parents are also responsible on this one.

Regards!!
